According to the news media outlets, it looks as though BJ the Buffoon is set to end Covid restrictions in March? This would be great for increasing staff numbers although I have no doubt that there will then be other circumstances such as the upcoming pay deal, shorter working week, 24/7 working requirements, cost of providing a Sunday parcel delivery, etc... that will be used to hold back the SP?

TheGen, it is no secret that Simon Thompson would like the USO reduced to five days a week and it is currently under consideration for review, however, any changes would require a change to the law so it's not quite as straight forward as it would appear (ask Rico Back).
The six day USO only applies to letters and it is also no secret that both Simon Thompson and the CWU are keen for seven day a week parcel deliveries and for mail centres to operate on a 24/7 basis. It therefore stands to reason that the number of delivery staff would be significantly increased to accommodate this ambition, especially when the 35 hour shorter working week is realised.

mhudson, thanks for sharing. Any idea how many OPGs will be offered VR and how many will be offered different roles such as deliveries?

RMG half yearly profits for 2021 were £235m (circa 140,000 employees across 4 countries).
GLS half yearly profits for 2021 were £169m (circa 19,000 employees across 41 European countries, eight U.S. states and two Canadian provinces ).
With consideration to the size of GLS and the area covered, I find the GLS figures totally amazing and as a company in their own right would surely command a share price of at least 500p?

Indeed Maximas but it looks as though the free kits will be scaled back to hospital staff, care homes and schools. It's still a reasonable catchment but not as good as it could be.

Maximas, I believe that you are correct and hopefully RM will keep screwing the Government for this contract, however, I have seen several news items recently that have reported that the UK Government are thinking about stopping free lateral flow tests.

If anyone is wondering as to why the stock market currently has RMG sitting at just over a fiver and not mirroring the fundamentals, which are reportedly around £8.50, then today's posts have well and truly enforced it.
mhudson has enlightened us all here that RM has a weak management structure that is unable to deal with the stronger personalities in the workforce. A generous sick leave policy coupled with strong enforcement of the Disabilities Act and a strong union membership has seen to that. I'm not knocking the union here, just stating the facts.
Ponty, "making the company great again"? What are you talking about? The only reason that Royal Mail was top of the pops, in days gone by, was because it had the monopoly until December 2005. It's easy to be the best in a group of one!
"Pay rises based upon individual performance" has long been trumped by "collective bargaining" so that's not going to happen.

Lastly, we have a CEO who is showing a great play of making the right overtures to the workforce and union. He wants all employees to log onto the RM Workplace app and share their views and comes across as a really nice bloke... One of the workforce.... But really? Nobody becomes the CEO of a FTSE 100 company without having the ability to be incisive and cut throat in their decision making.
I wonder if Simon Thompson's contract will expire before his patience wears out?

beatrootjuice, as an RM employee, I can share your frustration at seeing the values that have been instilled into us over the decades (QofS and customer satisfaction) being totally degraded to the point where nobody really cares any more (except for the poor sods who are still waiting for their mail).
Having said that, the investors that aren't employees neither know how the mail pipeline works, nor care, as long as the SP rises and dividends are paid. As soon as this stock starts to look like a donkey they will cash out.
I have to admit that I have previously held shares in a precious metals mining company and although I did some research beforehand, I can honestly say that reading up on the physical process of mining did little to change my view of getting out at a better price than I had paid and trousering the profit.

DunningKruger, I have no doubt that there are Angard staff in your mail centre, however it is the short term contract staff that have been let go as Achim Dunwald rescinded their contracts on Christmas Eve.
Unfortunately, these short term contract staff would have been useful in order to clear the backlog and, in my opinion, should probably have been kept on. I'm not sure if the Angard staff are more expensive, but if they are, this would have been an expensive oversight.
I do know that in my mail centre we struggled to secure the necessary numbers of Christmas Casuals. I believe that we requested forty on the early shift, fifty on the late shift and seventy on the night shift but we only had enough applications to fill thirty five on the early shift, forty on the late shift and thirty on the night shift. Apparently, our competitors and also supermarkets were offering superior Ts&Cs.
Having said that, I'm not sure if the stock market really gives a monkeys as long as the cash flows in.

CF is the Cardiff postcode area, MC is a mail centre and PSMs are parcel sorting machines..

mhudson, any idea as to a go live date will be for the first PSM? I was led to believe that the project at CF would begin in spring 2023 with the first PSM online by autumn 2023. Will the building need to be extended or altered first?
It is also anticipated that the South of England will have an operational hub by mid 2026.
