Tyga, I don't believe that DK is interested in take over bid. He had plenty of opportunity to buy when this stock was dropping from 220p down to 124p between January and April 2020.
Having said that, he also had plenty of opportunity to ditch this stock for a mahoosive profit in June 2021.

There may be more savings to come. Well, not quite savings so much as less outlay. From conversations with our late shift manager and PiC this week it would appear that some of the large offices that currently have parcel machines are now running below capacity (as much as 40% below as I am lead to believe) and are now requesting second class parcels from the small offices around them in order to run more efficiently. This in turn will mean that the small offices will become 2C parcel holding areas and will only need to process their first class parcels which only accounts for around 25% of parcel volumes. The first class parcels can be processed by hand and there will therefore be no requirement for a parcel machine.

Stickywicket99, I know that there are plans to redevelop some of the Mount Pleasant site however as much as this site is financially valuable, it is also strategically valuable so I don't think that it would be feasible to sell it off.

Stickywicket99, with regards to your question regarding the value of the RM estate "What, if any, relevance, does anyone attach to this "fact" ?
The RM estate is fairly large (although a fair amount of it is now leased) and I would say that it may be a factor if we were looking at a takeover bid or winding up the business, however, I'm fairly certain that it doesn't really have any influence on the SP as these are assets that the business needs in order to operate.

But will the results be fine? The video that Simon Thompson released today on the Royal Mail Workplace app was quite interesting.
He initially says that he acknowledges that we have been working hard this year but he can't talk about results until after the nineteenth (for obvious reasons) and follows that up by saying that he can't really talk about the pay deal as its still in the negotiation stage but he can reveal that the business cannot afford a pay deal that keeps pace with inflation..... unless the workforce are prepared to give something back. As I have mentioned on a previous post, the BoD wants to offer a deal worth up to 3.5% but the majority of the CWU represented workforce will need to need to give around 8% to 10% of their allowances back in order to secure their future? Makes sense? I thought not...
So RM needs to find approximately £42m to fund a 1% pay rise. £400m would fund a 9% pay rise. I suspect that the CWU would have settled for around 5% without strings.. So the projected message is that we shouldn't expect fantastic results on the nineteenth?

Indeed Redceo. It's pathetic really. The cycle just keeps going regardless of whom is at the helm.
RMG will plead poverty until May 18th when the financial results come out. In the meantime, the union will have balloted the members and then the talks will resume when the BoD suddenly find a few quid from behind the sofa. Unfortunately by then the company will have cheesed off the rank and file employees. I'm really not sure what's to be gained by RM here?
Unless..... The BoD know that the full year results are going to be below expectations and things are going pear shaped?..... Only joking..... If RMG can't turn a profit in the current conditions then they never will.

It's strange how history has a habit of repeating itself repeating itself. In the 1960's and 70's the new "mechanised letter offices" were sited adjacent to major rail stations, usually linked by a chain conveyor system. This proved to be very successful until the railway workers went on strike or the line required maintenance and so this way of transportation was phased out from the 1980's in favour of road transport.
Fifty years after Beeching's cuts and we are starting to realise the value of our railways with some lines that were saved by local action groups actually coming back as regular services which is fantastic.
It makes total sense to utilise the railways.

AngerSharkz, I think that's reasonable too. Agreeing to the "attached strings" would actually result in a pay cut for many as some allowances can account for up to 10% on top of the basic pay and are accepted by financial institutions for the purposes of obtaining a mortgage which could really trash a family's budget. It's a similar story for Sunday working which many do on overtime as they need the extra money which is especially important at the current time when utility bills are soaring.

AngerSharkz, I believe that the CWU approached RMG about two months ago with a proposal of around 4% with no strings and I believe that this would have been acceptable. This was based on the fact that the business had made a decent profit throughout the pandemic and had already gifted £400m to the shareholders.

However, in the interests of balance, this is the communication from the CWU.

Firstly let's be clear,
There is no pay rise unless new working arrangements are implemented.
These include:
Reduced sick pay
Annualised hours (working longer hours at busy periods and less when traffic is low)
Giving up of allowances (shift allowances etc...)
New starters on less pay than current staff.
A new operational pipeline enabling later delivery times. They MAY pay a one off payment of £500 subject to achieving as yet to be agreed productivity targets. IN ESSENCE THEY ARE OFFERING A QUID! BUT TO RECEIVE IT YOU OWE THEM A FIVER!!!!!
Ricky McAuley's email also states that the business is surprised by the CWU's decision to pass a motion that rejects their offer in less than a week.
He doesn't tell you that they have had an offer from the CWU for two months without responding!
He also doesn't mention that RM paid shareholders £400 million in January, but expects staff to accept that the company does not have the money to give a decent deserved pay deal!
This pay offer is only for operational postal grades and does not include engineering, fleet and Parcel Force so is not for "all CWU grade colleagues".

So, to be clear on what RMG have offered up as this year's pay deal.

We would pay 2% as soon as we agree a deal, backdated to April 2022
A further 1.5% would be paid when the changes we are seeking commence implementation
And it includes an 'above and beyond' bonus scheme worth up to 2% of salary that would be paid in units where we have delivered productivity improvements above plan for the year.

Peakybinder, I'm not sure where the correlation between employees ****ging the company off and the share price is? Perhaps there is a link but I'm unable to see it.
With regards to the actual job, it's not all drinking tea and finishing early, in fact tea breaks are rare and as for cutting off early....
RM are currently struggling with recruitment in many areas because working for Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Asda is more lucrative and attractive as we found out during the build up to Christmas when we couldn't get enough agency staff.
The only main difference is the pension scheme.
When we were warned about the "race to the bottom", I thought that it would take longer?

I beg to differ.
Given that we are constantly informed that the markets don't like uncertainty then I would take the viewpoint that it most definitely will in the short term, especially armed with the knowledge that the SP tumbled by almost 50% from 236p at the end of November 2019 to 124p by the end of March 2020. Some of that was pandemic but the majority of it was due to the public spat between the CWU and Rico Back.
Of course this is all in the past and not a guarantee of the future, however history does have a habit of repeating itself?
