Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West has today sent an official letter to Rees-Mogg with a series of questions about the future of Royal Mail.

AngerSharkz, I firmly believe that Rees-Mogg will give the go ahead for VESA to up their stake however as this has triggered a NSI review, I also believe that there will be terms and conditions attached to any takeover and of course as much as the CWU won't like it there will be nothing that they can do about it.
One would hope that this influences the SP in a positive way but as we are aware with the artist formerly known as RMG it's never a given.

The Tories have always been in favour of the UK not being in control of it's own assets and heritage and so we find ourselves at the mercy of foreign investment companies taking the profits out of the UK whilst putting back the minimum investment and infrastructure. The mini drought this summer reminded us that foreign owned water companies had not invested nearly enough in emergency planning or reservoir building. The UK no longer has anywhere near enough gas storage facilities or indeed produces enough gas to feed the internal market whilst renewable energy is brought up to a sufficient percentage and I'm sure that RM will be yet another case in question.

Redceo, perhaps you could gloss over the facts and paint a more rosy scenario for Royal Mail.....lol

Ispy, don't forget to factor in the wages, NIC and pensions contributions that RM UK will not be paying out (which I estimate at around £11.5m per day.

I'm sure that you would like some of your bullet points to come to fruition and I have no doubt that some will.....but many won't. Who would want to run or own a business where the management upset the workforce for fun? What would be the point?

Derek, it also has to be taken into consideration that a percentage of the UK population still think that Post Office Counters is the Royal Mail and vice versa?

Whilst I agree on this point......
The RM UK CEO states in his recent mailing to employees that "Royal Mail are proud to deliver the USO in its current format." If he is to be believed along with the knowledge that OFCOM have stated that there should be no change to the USO then he is obviously happy to keep this area of the UK operation as a loss maker?
Obviously the above scenario doesn't make economic sense so he is either lying or deluded. My personal take is the former which is why I don't trust him.

Peaky, you really think that VESA are going to part with any more capital than is absolutely necessary? I reckon that the offer is going to be much lower personally. Any profit that GLS make (which will now probably be scaled back from the last forecast) will be offset by the RM UK losses thus devaluing the group profits. VESA will almost certainly use this to their advantage in order to offer a bargain basement price potentially leaving investors with high averages very much out of pocket. These guys don't get rich by pure coincidence.

Anyhoo, I see that Citadel (Europe and LLP) have come up as increasing their positions as of the 3rd.
So, that's 3.59% across 4 institutions.
