I would say that a posties job is safer than the CEOs job right now....lol "Test &Trace"Thompson.....lol The SP may have gone to the dogs but the dividend payments have been delivered (see what I did there?).....lol
Scamp, which Ice Man did you have in mind, the Dutch motivation speaker, Win Hof, the one from Top Gun, Tom Kazansky, or the one from the X-Men films, Thermokinesis?
A bit of a disappointing ending to the last post? I thought that it was going to end with.... you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine.
So what's to stop VESA from delaying their offer until a time when they obtain the business at the cheapest opportunity? Presumably the shareholders would have a vote on that?
Hounddog, does anyone on this forum have any rough ideas as to how many staff RM UK would need to shed to make it viable? I have asked this question a few times without response. It has been posted of an 8,000 to 10,000 employee attrition rate per annum but I have no idea where this figure was derived from? Obviously if it is believed that RM UK need to shed around 20,000 staff then the business could be looking at a couple of years to get to target figure and that would assume that staff are leaving in the geographical areas and at a uniform rate necessary to facilitate the most efficient change otherwise the business will need to employ casual workers to fill the gaps.
Maximus, I have never said that it couldn't, can't or won't ever happen. I am just starting the obvious obstacles that would prevent it from happening this year or possibly next year. If the UK Government can sort out the USO problem before Christmas then I would be very surprised given the "to do" list laid before them. Don't forget, it took the current Government about two months just to elect a new leader so good luck with obtaining a decision on the USO anytime this week/month/year....lol Oh dear, how sad, never mind. We will probably continue this conversation next year...lol.
Maximus, Moya Greene started the conversation about a "level playing field" and "changes to the USO" before privatisation around 2011/12. So far... Zip. I suspect that any proposed changes to the USO beginning now, won't be realised until around 2025/26?
Maximus, "nothing stays the same forever, when people want things to change…..there’s always a way…some people think things are set in stone …they rarely are…but hey ho…." Whilst that may be true, change regarding the USO has to go through the correct procedure. In this case it's through the House of Commons. Now I know that you will realise that the HoC is a very slow moving institution. It took three years to get a reading so that RM UK could have permission to change the pension scheme. We are in the middle of a monarch change, there's a cost of living crisis and Brexit still hasn't been"done". Changes to the USO are we'll down the list.
Mike, "natural wastage of the workforce was already at 8-10,000 staff per year, all RM has to do is continue not replacing these leavers and it can soon reduce the workforce significantly at no cost at all". That's all very pragmatic however what level of staff reduction would be acceptable and how many years (of fines for not hitting delivery targets would it take to get down to your target level. I also find it quite ironic that we have very few young workers (under thirty) coming through into deliveries. It seems that the UK youth aren't really interested in becoming a postal worker?
Beatrootjuice, RM UK probably won't have the funds to pay a dividend but GLS will be able to provide a decent payout which should keep the investors happy.

Scamp "hope he has the b@lls to make the unpopular decision...and then take all the massive amount of flak that will surely go with it". These people don't think like you and me. A bit of flak is foreplay to these guys and that includes Thompson, Williams et al....
Teslo, Royal Mail have issued new barcoded stamps and are phasing out older style NVI stamps since March 2022. The older style stamps can be swapped out for new style stamps. https://www.royalmail.com/sending/barcoded-stamps
AngerSharkz, I have always thought that it's dangerous to take the average citizen for a fool. Brainwashing is a different matter although you would be giving Pullinger and Ward a lot of credence to think that they could pull that off? Having said that, Johnson and Sunak spent about a year brainwashing the UK population and succeeded to a great degree but look where we are now....
AngerSharkz, Royal Mail went from producing a £416m profit for 2021/22 to an adjusted operating loss of £92m for the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year. This is possibly the worst case of poor management that you will ever see? How on earth are the RM CEO or CFO still in a job?
