If we did sweet F and A less people would have died overall of both covid and other things in the timeframe of late 2019 (amma pub worker, we an industry we are adamment covid went through pubs as far back as November 2019 when basically everyone had a nasy flu like illness at the time) to now.
Now campare apparches and actions taken in the following two examples. Sweden Vs Germany, Florida Vs New York. Laisse faire Vs central authority. It is positievly psuedoscience to claim lockdowns do anything other than make matters worse at this point. Also comparing covid to plague is beyond absurd. Not even a virus, the theory of miasma was king(it's kinda coming back thanks to lockdowners) and no, small pox has too low of an evolutionary factor compared to corona or rhino family viruses to be a valid comparison as champions of lockdowns do. Plus that was wayyyy more dangerous to all and sundry. Thank god someone noticed their milkmaid got cowpox but never smallpox and his wife was brave enough to get jabbed with some cow/smallpox serum eh. Anyway.

Then there's the difficult to quantify deaths from substance abuse, domestic violence, suicide, missed medical examines etc etc.

Bottomline, there's debate to be had over the validity/utility of lockdowns and mrna based vaccines (the distinction should be made, vaccine used to mean prevention of infection and or transmission but they changed it like the tyrants they are) being deployed against high infectious but very low lethality viruses. Does that change anything for the fleeting small % of healthy people exposed to covid that will suffer complication or the order of magnitude higher % of ill/older people that could well die. Nope. But the attempts to protect that % sure are having a disproportionate and detrimental effect on the pluarity of people. Surely in our progressive age we can balance the two?
Rememeber. The path to hell is paved with good intentions and facisim is objectively best described as a join venture between State and Corporation. So careful what you wish for.

Anyway. My parents both have COPD, my stepdad nearly died of COVID 19 complications in Feburary and even they said yesterday. They better not try and lock us down again, we have to learn to live with this now.

And today I woke up ill which is rare for me but I work inna pub and this time of year I tend to get something but do you know what? I've done a pcr, it's negative and I have to move come end of January so I'm going to work later.

IMO one of the best things we could do to break chains of infection regarding seasonaly endemic pathogens, so covid 19 joins flu and cold imo, without making draconian and argubaly Orwellian changes to society; is to simply adjust sick leave rules. Everyone gets 2 weeks corona virus sick pay. And provide cheap effective self testing for people so they can confirm their symptoms.
As a chef, if I have dirrhea or sickness I cannot return to work for 48 hours. Just do the same thing with cold, flus and coronas except maybe 72 hours and educate people to wash their hands more.

Oh and I think we should be all able to agree, by this point, that objectively speaking lockdowns in a world of fast travel and globalised economies simply make things worse via the unintended (some would argue intended) consequences. Eg economic damage, mental health issues, missed medical screenings/ops, stunted childhood development, interrupted food aid shipments leading to tens of thousands of dead african kids per month (UN report sometime in 2020) and even just missed personal opportunities in life etc etc.
Met the only woman I ever really loved during lockdown, nearly lost her to the wuflu, then lost her to a car crash and coma. Never could just get a plane and be by her side (German) as we planned on before real life said no. But whatever. Bovine matter likes to fly.
Contrast Florida with New York. Sweden with Germany. Plenty of data to support the claim by now. Lockdowns kill more than they save.
