Lol, you were spot on about POG! I think today shows that if gold is flying, risk perception is soon forgotten. PAF is up and ABG is nearly the top riser today - despite their all-in costs being in the asteroid mining bracket. AAZ have no gold, PGD have no gold, PAF have a good mine in Barberton & Evander will become viable if gold continues upwards. Personally, the dark continent is no longer for me. My good friend Salz would doubtless agree were he not busy with the new spring collection.

I think so but rather than taking advantage of currency fluctuation, I believe these two are heading for the exit before the stampede. There's only one Van den Bergh director -Andre.The L.Vandenbergh is an associate of his so must be subject to the same disclosure rules. The big news is that over the last 2 days Andre sold 850000 - his entire holding. Also, I mistakenly said that the manager of Barberton - C Strydom- had sold his entire holding last week. It turns out that was an associate. However, Casper has now started selling too. So the director of HR and the General Manager at Barberton are selling out. Looks like the Evander "integration" has been a disaster.

On re-reading your post, I see that you were referring to the broader market, my mistake. However, as it's been the main plank of your bearishness on POG for the last 6 months, I'm sure you can see why I jumped to the wrong conclusion! It looks as though, as you say regarding Poly, any announcement of refinancing will have no discernible impact in the short term. It's all about the gold price. When PAF isn't even rising in the run-up to a handsome dividend, you know things are grim.

Sberbank just rolled over Polymetals debt which was similar to POGs - if there is a tipping point for heavily indented gold miners, it won't be refinancing. I'm surprised a man of your background getting it so wrong! Lol

It means they are planning a wealth-destroying share issue.

I must say it makes for good reading and the costs for Evander are surprisingly low - I called this one totally wrong. Dividend reinstated, net debt down to £6.2m and £29m remaining of revolving credit. Makes you wonder why their investor relations were so ham-fisted.

Salz, is your longstanding certitude about the dividend based on anything other than PAF's vague, aspirational statement about restoring it at some point? I see Ron Holding, former chief operating officer, is new CEO though they're saying he lacks Nelson's charisma. I saw Nelson at the Chester Hotel and he came across as an affable lummox who spouted platitudes. If that's what they mean by charisma, Holding should be an improvement. Meanwhile, Jan's toxic legacy, Evander, should continue to impact seriously on PAF's average extraction costs. Cut your losses here and get stuck into Petropavlovsk - more bang for your buck!
