Brexit and Coronavirus will come and go just as quickly..... case of corona virus are now nearly ZERO outside Hubei and the Government is lifting restrictions in the next few days....

The Chinese Government is within days of lifting the quarantine in Hubei as the number of new cases has plummeted. The end is in sight!

The bear market for banks started 3 years ago! Its always darkest before the dawn.

€2.23 is the lowest it ever got during the worst of the great recession. I do not think we are anywhere near that. Long term excellent buy. Coronavirus is falling rapidly in china - no new cases outside Hubei... everything getting back to normal.

JP Morgan are OVERWEIGHT on AIB - 3.50 target.... for all the doom mongers out there - JP Morgan only give BIRG a neutral rating. I've loaded up £10k this week on AIB - most recently this afternoon, at 1.87. I think its far far far too cheap to pass over.... the context of banking has changed out of all recognition - people need to read the bank's annual/quarterly reporting and look at the balance sheet.

CoilKilcrea - agree entirely.... complete irrationality - next millionaires will be in the making in the current time IMO.... People cannot see it, but they couldn't see BIRG going from 8 cents a share to nearly 40 cents in all but a few years. The banks are healthier now than when BIRG was 40 cents - significantly more capital buffers; more prudent lending; strong reserves; low NPEs...

Exploitation - people are being thoroughly exploited by the media and companies that profit through falls in share prices.... same thing happened because of Brexit.... load of bunkham!

norrab1 - and I was focused on the guidance in the annual report, not the historicals.... you obviously have read absolutely nothing!

norrab1 - that being the case - I saw ZERO mention of potential claims in the annual report. 3,000 people have died not 300,000,000.... such a fantasist of extremes.... Life Assurance doesn't cover this either as its a notifiable disease!

Thats entirely false and misleading. NAV per share is €4.60. Their own cash on hand is well over €6 billion and their balance sheet is far healthier than Birg. be careful with your facts.

AIBG share price now at the lowest price in its history - far lower than during the great recession. Completely and utterly unwarranted in my opinion.... its now standing at 3-4 times earnings (if you look at the profit it has made last year). It's standing at 2/3 of a cent in pre-consolidation terms - it was never that low even in the worst days of the great recession which it got through. I think its been vastly oversold IMO. What do I know - I'm just thick!

Aviva reports a jump in profits to over £3,000,000,000 - Share price goes up 0.25%
Kier report a loss of £24 million - Share price goes up 20%

I fear I am losing a complete grip on reality these days - is it me or is it an insane market??????????? Both are subject to the vagaries of the coronavirus.........?????

Faulkes - if you sold on fear - you sold at a bad time.... people making serious money shorting and betting against the markets. They always bounce back!

100% echo smalltrader's sentiment. I have no intention of selling any shares. We've been in a technical recession for years - we haven't recovered from the last recession. Despite this - our employment levels are at record high and banks are making significant amounts of money! The media are the REAL enemy at the moment - spreading fear on almost a scale you might see if mass murderers were on every street. The fear is totally out of sync with the actual risks at the moment.

Wids - 100% overblown IMO - absolute non-sense!!!!!! of the highest order. The amount of media coverage is insane - its as if people are waiting for mass murderers around every corner. BONKERs!

I just do not believe that the circumstances are anywhere near what they were in 2009.... banks have spent years recapitalising and strengthening their balance sheets and have rid them of bad debt! This is a very temporary issue of a flu spreading - the improved weather will remove a lot of the risk.... honestly people are stone MAD these days - completely over reacting to absolutely everything!

Newboy58 - people's reaction to the coronavirus will kill people long before the virus does. I think society should be diagnosed with a psychoses - the market is 100% being played.... how can a company making such vast increases in profits be marked down to 5 times F'ing earnings?????????????????????????????????????
