Brockwl, due to previous difficulties in obtaining sufficient stock, a large delivery of gen2 was ordered. Gen 3 was designed with after manufacture fitment in the EU as its primary focus. It makes perfect sense for initial deliveries of G3 to be kept for the EU whilst the rest of the world continued to fit the already paid for stock. My personal opinion is that Woodsmith will not be mothballed. They will undoubtedly be enthusiastically looking for a partner, and courting various politicians seeking support in exchange for photo opportunities and a success in the making in the north. It’s not in anyone’s interest to follow any path other than to complete the construction and start production.

Having been priced to fail, the staff, supervisors and leadership team have been given a huge wake up call. They are now well financed, have learnt from their previous mistakes in the ramp up process, and couldn’t be more motivated in order to make this a success and retain their employment. The COO and incoming chairman should be a sound start for the turnaround process.

The horizontal 23 mile tunnel is progressing well ahead of schedule without issues. It’s just starting a pre planned maintenance pause but has completed 75% of the dig.

OldRascal my understanding is that BHP are completely disinterested in Woodsmith, Anglo are very interested, but are wanting a strategic partner. Cost of completion under AAL without a strategic partner would be severely reduced over the next two years. The difficulty however is to work out whether this is actually the plan from either side or is it just a matter of takeover tactics.

The costs involved of completing Woodsmith are significant, and it would be easy to argue either way regarding whether to pushback or accelerate completion.

Yuri.F To describe Woodsmith as endless delays in various stages is entirely unjust and unworthy of you. Anglo bought the mine in the early stages of construction, and decided from the start that they would take a slightly different approach to the engineering challenges.

What is being achieved here is a low impact, highly efficient mine that will access a world class resource for between fifty to one hundred years.

The huge financial aspects of the project can be justifiably articulated, but not the engineering.

The completion timelines at the Woodsmith mine have changed, primarily because the decision was taken when Anglo took control to avoid the cost incurred with multiple tunnel boring machines and focus on the slower but cheaper single TBM option.
