Indeed. As an economist by training, I'd further opine it's a bonkers notion to seek/expect trade parity.

Because it's impossible for poorish countries whom sell say diamonds, avocados, t shirts, coffee, spice, exotic fruit, rare base minerals etc etc, for their $3-5 an HR workers to pony up to buy US luxury goods Harley Davidson's, Jack Bean, Levis, Indians, Buicks, Tesla's and other US goods to balance the trade books. Just impossible!

On the other aspect of trying to bring manuf back in house, Musk has started that attempted unblinkering of how this is frankly impossible given multi part country input of nearly everything we make (most US goods have 30-70% non USA componentry input) , with his old Milton Friedman video on Pencils - but I suspect that might be his curtain call with the administration.

When will it end we cry, but of course it will end....and I suspect quite soon.

I'm really surprised that Dow/Nasdaq is looking resilient @ c 1-2% gain. Had been uncharacteristically 'cautiously pestimistic' we'd see -3/5%..... A fillip,but really not what what I expected at all.

My pal did something similar today mavswf.

He was up 437% since Oct 2020 and decided, after we chatted for an hour, that these shenanigans were not for him, so he baled.

Net result - It's now lopped it down to circa 350%...which is still not too shabby over 4.5 yrs!

I expect a go in the 250 Lusso he's eyeing up !

Long run I'm still positive but next few days are not for the feint hearted, I agree. I still wouldn't bet against the mkt with a really big chunk though.

Imho shorting would be suicidal, as it only works for a sustained dropping stock with poor fundamentals like say blackberry or more recently metro bank 18 months ago, where a few routers eg Crispin et al made a chunk. By contrast RR shorting could utterly wipe you out cos when it flies again it will fly....

This China - USA spiral will and had hit the mkt again today, but it's ephemeral noise. RR Shares might go to 550-600 on paper but it's just the weak/over leveraged who HAVE to dismount. I've been through 87, 00, 08, 20 and a year a so on from each it's filled up again. In fact in 87 it went down 21% and corrected I recall in just two months or so.

Don't sell peeps, unless you have to.....

FTSE 100/250 likely to follow suit.

Could see RR drop few percent on opening and then see how sentiment follows. I suspect it might end day slightly down on yesterday.

Well who knew....DJ rallying and RR likewise up to 654 ! Thats me done for day got up in uk crack of sparrows fart for Asia Mkt Openings. Not the bloodbath some predicted (yet).

Just 10 mins in and 3.8% hit to DJ as futures predicted - quite low I'd expected 5% like ftse, hang seng, sing etc

No major negative MC activity impact to RR yet ...perhaps c 0.5% 640 to 637 only

As predicted we are pretty much back to 8.00am UK opening.

Of FTSE 100 about 3% only Lloyds Bank has wiped its face too

Be interesting to see US margin calls activity in 15 mins on price, but im predicting little/low impact

Don't forget tomorrow a.m. we'll have some (5% profit) day traders cashing in and few more dillitante/clueless/ leveraged investors dismounting too in morning.... so expect 1-3% drop at 8-9am.

I predict Trump/his team will bail or at least put implementation on hold on these tariffs by end of week unless something amazingly positive happens for him-uber unlikely.
