Some of the best returns you will get at the moment is becoming more self-reliant in food and energy. Grow your own veg if you have a garden or get on a waiting list for an allotment. If you have a suitable roof explore getting solar, consider ground source heating and improving insulation.
With energy - watch out for subsidies from GOV or the local Council; it is likely that Sunak will announce incentives in energy efficiency in the next budget as it is a labour-intensive job to insulate a property etc and new jobs are needed.
Sometimes spending money more efficiently is better than hunting speculative profits. Good luck with any choices you make. For what it is worth I currently have shares in SIS, PHC & MAFL but my buy in prices are lower than the current Bids offered by the Market Makers which gives me some leeway.
