The science seems clear - the risks for an older / immune compromised person are not the same as for a healthy younger person. Guidance coming from health departments does not seem nuanced enough yet. One takeaway is that nearly 5 million Yanks have already had the new bivalent booster without significant complications.

I should have added that reducing energy costs should have only been done for the poorest; the wealthier could have carried the burden and a universal cap on costs does little to force a reduction in demand by wealthier heavy users. The idea that the national debt is being increased to pay to heat pools, stables etc is repugnant.

Another view:

To boost exports [which have not jumped yet despite the Brexit freedoms] the £ needed to be repriced = Done
To balance the mismanaged Gov books spending needed further excuses to be cut in real and nominal terms [aka starve the beast] = Done
Interest rates needed to go up rapidly to increase the cost of capital and improve resource allocation from income assets to growth assets = Done
The overpricing of housing needed to be dealt with = partly done by substantially increasing interest rates.
The supply of housing needs to be improved = will soon be improved through loosening of planning permissions sold as a requirement to get out of the recently created economic mess.

But overloading the patient with so much medicine at once can be fatal and that patient should have been warned to prepare them for the toxic shock about to be unleashed.

My complaints are that the reduction is tax rates are wrong whilst running a deficit; reducing top rates looks wrong and annoys the masses who you are inflicting economic hurt on; reducing the basic rate creates a further dislocate between services / 'entitlements' and those who receive them (how do you value what you do not pay. for).

Corporation tax could have been left alone of only gone up a percent or two but significantly more should be done to outlaw transfer pricing. The way I think about transfer pricing is Amazon - they use the roads and transport network to move their goods, rely on the health of local workers to man their warehouses and use the local courts to sue those who have transgressed them. But they use transfer pricing to shield their tax burden and even facilitate VAT fraud by merchants.

The biggest problem is that they will do some swerving to prop up house prices and they are the most overpriced asset class.
