The media reporting is biased towards what their more affluent readers want to read [who can afford to pay £2.50 a day just to get their fingers dirty paging through the Guardian?]. The 2% increase in prices ignores inflation [you could get more interest on a deposit account, so real prices are still down].

And, the report does say that volume is down 18%... the bottom of the market has fallen off as first time buyers are priced out of the market. Of course, stats will show a price increase if the bottom quartile of the market shrivels.
