BlueGlow,
"fiscally prudent traditionalists" - in the last 14 years GOV has borrowed £1.5 trillion whilst unfunded pension liabilities have rocketed. And, all that borrowing has left us with bankrupt councils, run down public housing, a broken NHS, a creaking Grid and 5h!t in the rivers. They may claim to be "fiscally prudent traditionalists" but they have not walked the walk.
Dominic Grieve or a Rory Stewart can now sit comfortably in the Starmer tent, even though they would be on the right of the aisle. Grieve and Stewart actually believed in governing for the people, not self-enrichment from public office; I see that in Starmer.
The next GOV will inherit a mess that will take time to heal. I have faith that the small changes that Labour would put in place would add up. Things like not giving billion £ contracts to mates; not accepting donations from Ruzzians that influence policies, not stirring culture wars to distract voters etc. Small changes will result in a happier and healthier nation, and a happier and healthier nation will be more productive and generate more taxes, driving a virtuous circle.
The Tories are running on Labour not having a plan and shouting over anybody who tries to explain the plan; just being honest in GOV will be a better plan than has been delivered over the last decade and a bit.
We have already had Trump light; Boris was a disaster and as we do not have a presidential system the Tories were able to give him the boot.
