I think that it will ultimately be down to large institutions who control 79.5% of ITV to make that decision. Small shareholders votes will be meaningless.

Agreed Coronation, lots to look forward to for BT shareholders IMO, that could result in a very positive outcome for the undervalued share price. The patient BT holders should be handsomely rewarded over the next 3 years and beyond. I only intend adding to my holding over the next few years. I could be wrong of course, but I will take my chances with BT. Happy to hold.

SimplyWall.st give their ITV fair value @276p, so judging by my fair value and theirs, I would say that I'm being very conservative. Not that it makes any difference to what I say or you for that matter.

Not risk free but there should be room for UK-focused streamer

“Our ambitions in the streaming world are not world domination,” declared Carolyn McCall, chief executive of ITV. Thank goodness for that, shareholders may feel. Even a plan to be a national streaming champion sent the share price crashing by 27%, which equates to more than £1bn of stock market value.

Was the plan such a shocker? Not really. ITV will have to ramp up spending on programming by £160m next year as it launches ITVX, the new streaming service, which probably implies a couple of years of going backwards in terms of profits. But the alternative was a counsel of despair – just let Netflix, Disney, Amazon mop up every last digital pound in the UK.

ITV still has to demonstrate that it can achieve McCall’s target of at least double-digital revenues to £750m by 2026, but it’s not as if Coronation Street and other advertising home-bankers are about to disappear from linear-viewed screens. A “digital first” approach is not risk-free but there really ought to be room for a UK-focused streaming service to duck and weave between globally designed US output.

3card, I always give credit where its due. You may remember Tom advising everyone and his dog to pile in to retail shares, M&S when they were priced at 260p per share. In fact if I was to believe a word (which I don't by the way) from troll Tom he invested £100k at this lofty price. I find it laughable that anyone would want to give him any credit? For what? A stopped clock is right more than our fantasist Troll.

Tom, what a load of BS, ITV doesn't have the finances to compete for football rights for elite football matches, even BT wanted out. A sure way of going bust in a very short time period. IMO. Netflix's loss may well be ITV's gain.

The Netflix subscription price increases bodes well for ITVX which IMO will gain subscribers because of these actions. The Netflix share price has lost almost 50% withing a few months.

With ITVX expected to start in Q4 of this year and peoples disposable income expected to drop, ITV may well benefit at just the right time. With ITVX having 15000 free hours of viewing content including adverts, or pay for no adverts plus extra content. No TV licence is required for streaming this service saving £159 per year. Who's not going to take advantage of this? I would think that many students and family's on low income will jump at this free offer. It would be foolish not to.

In Ireland the basic plan will rise by €1 to €8.99, the standard package will increase from €12.99 to €14.99 and the premium tier will rise from €17.99 to €20.99.

Tom, I'm sure that you already know this, and don't need telling again. Most if not all directors sell their allocated free shares to pay for their tax liabilities.

ITV directors are saying to the market with their share purchases, we trust our judgement regarding ITV's future. ITV's Chairman has invested half of his yearly salary in to ITV in the last few days.

They should be made to pay every penny back, after all it is tax payers money.

So what you're saying then is that people could take out a loan against their business? Or against an asset that belongs to their business.
