They are implying no Gen 1 sales will not materialise until Gen2 depending how you read it. That’s my interpretation.

I didn’t read TG2D’s post but I saw Smithy’s reply so I can fill in the gaps.

When the buyback resumed the RNS was released two days later.

If Gen 1 Lead was “dead” the Company would have said so given the impact on any sort of guidance – Proactive commented differently but they’ve gotten it wrong in the past and often make their own assumptions without expressing them as such.

The Peel Hunt note is saying “IF lead is dead – then it’s not a big worry as their base case scenarios were based mainly on InAs coming to mass markets.” As noted above – the Company has NOT said that lead is dead.

On the quality of the material – last November (15th) the co announced their first ever commercial production order for Gen 1 sensing materials. ST would not place a production order if the material had not passed all of the stringent tests set by the customer – so the “sub-standard” assumption does not seem to be based on any ‘facts’.

GEN 2 (InAs) is higher performing and able to access some other applications that lead cannot (such as automotive) but that is completely different form saying that lead is sub-standard and if there’s a price differential I’d expect Gen1 to have a possible long term future in much the same way cadmium dots do in display.

It’s entirely plausible that the company sought reassurance from ST when the anticipated order was not placed in FY24. Given that would affect cash flow it’s appropriate to pause the buy back and preserve cash. Clearly Nanoco were in dialogue with their customer and noted three times in the RNS about a delay so again in the absence of another theory I consider this one to be robust. Perhaps more will come out in October

It’s a joke that people can’t discuss matters without the trash talk. They advised me they’d look into it and obviously they’ve had enough too as it’s detrimental to their business if the forum descends into playground taunts rather than company business. So nothing to do with Nanoco.

Maybe this is the kind of low volume application we can expect from Gen 1.

I would argue that they are different though.

Gen 1 is lead based and can’t be used where temperature is a factor.

Gen 2 is lead free and is thermally more stable.

If your end use case doesn’t care about lead and you don’t have temperature concerns and Gen1 is cheaper I’d buy Gen 1 .

My argument falls flat though if Nanoco produce Gen 2 at the same price which would automatically retire Gen1

I do expect a difference in price to reflect R&D costs, it being lead free and the wider applications / end uses so Gen 1 might not necessarily be retired when Gen 2 comes on stream. Quite how large the price difference is (if any) will likely dictate this though.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 have different capabilities and end uses applications as a result.

Gen 1 is not suited to high temperature environments and discounted for use in automotive. But it will still have other machine vision applications and I would imagine it's cheaper than Gen2 so could run side by side with Gen2
