@Big-Blue its common practice these days and the rules state only limit orders have to be sent to the exchange, obviously each stock broker has thier own sets of rules and how they do it, its almosta certain that is you are using a broker that is offering free trades or extremely cheap they are running a dark pool. From what i read its common practice these days, im sure even interactive investor do it, i often get 'improved' prices on my contract notes which i am assuming come from their pool of shares.
@Roxy, morning, yes interest rates to control inflation, back then we didnt use quantative easing or have the banks inventing electronic money through loans, i would also note that the 10 year bonds market is at an all time high right now, which means a lot of money has already left the equities market, this should reverse at some point, as others have said cash in the bank is not where people keep their money these days as you are guaranteed to lose.
