That was the last time STMicro wee mentioned by name. Subsequent follow on RNS’ referred to them as the European customer. Who STMicro are supplying remains elusive, however it was understood (but not confirmed) that Nanoco and STMicro were working with Apple until cancellation of the contract in 2019. Also Jonathan Steckel who was involved with Apple, subsequently shifted to STMicro where he has been leading the charge for QD enhanced NIR and SWIR sensors.

Timetables have moved in sequence with Apple Vision Pro, coupled with patent information and the spec of the VP device plus the initial low volume it seems the most logical first use.

We don’t know who the Asian customer is at present. We do know it’s a top ten chemicals manufacturer. I think it’s Shin Etsu, as that seems the best fit to me.

Means they haven't decided on whether the amount will be paid in cash or via some other distribution.

We know the company intends to return between £33-40m to shareholders. That could be via a special dividend or by some other method, or a mixture. At this time the method of return has not been confirmed, all we know is that the second tranche payment, which is due to be paid next month has been hedged at $1.22 to the pound.

Qualcomm have some very good chip designs through their acquisition of Nuvia a few years back. Apple are only keeping pace by using TSMC 3nm process.

Maybe the second payment in 10 won bits.

The temperature ranges for components in vehicles are quite demanding and do differ depending on where they're located. More information here-

Range varies from 85-125°C. The lower range is generally the minimum standard for most consumer goods, so I'd expect lead sulphide materials to work in that range but a rear view mirror would be located just behind the windscreen, so the temperature could get quite elevated. I don't know what the temperature range of lead sulphide materials are, so we'll have to wait and see.

Nanoco themselves have stated automotive cases are more focused on 2nd gen materials- heat is an issue for lead sulphide.

This has been discussed some months back last year. There are a few sensors currently being trialled or 'previewed' as STM like to put it that may contain QD's, however zero mention of that and no QE spec given on the datasheets. Perhaps more information will be forthcoming once they are on general sale.

Also to date I've seen no mention of sensors operating beyond 940nm even though we know that one of the materials is in the 1.3-1.5nm band. So awaiting some news of the SWIR sensors from STM.

No idea. Probably early on in R&D, but they have been working with Qurv, and if you look on their website they're hiring for a few people for QD material production and application.

Apple are renowned for being very picky about who they'll buy components from. BOE blotted their copybook a couple of years ago when they changed the spec of a screen for iphones without informing Apple, but seem to have mended relations since.

If Seeya and/or BOE come on board to supply OLED on silicone (which is the bottleneck) then they should be able to push well past 400k units per annum, as that's the capacity for Sony alone I believe.

Presumably, companies want to see how well the device is received before committing to large volume orders.

Well don't hold your breath. How meany years has that one been batted around? I think there is a lot of lobbying behind the scenes to maintain cadmium QD's, and I expect a fair few bank balances are bolstered in order to turn a blind eye.

So you think it's about 1-2p per sensor earnings- about £120-130k profit assuming 500k unit volume and every IR sensor in the Vision Pro is using Nanoco dots. That doesn't sound very impressive, and they'd be lucky to turn earnings of £500k a year for handset volumes of 100m per annum assuming a sensor per device.

The OLED on silicone displays are the big expense as they're hard to make and I beleive they have a high scrappage rate. I've seen various figures bandied about from around $250-350 per display.

Don't think they can afford to ditch any sensors without compromising functionality, and Apple are all about that. What they may do is try and integrate more sensors into single packages. e.g. forward facing RGB cameras may also integrate IR cameras too.

Nope just getting a sensible handle on future revenue prospects in the near term.

In a nutshell if all the IR sensors in the device use QD's then around £1-2 profit to Nanoco for every Vision Pro sold. £10 per device would be pure fantasy IMO.
