Ed Miliband, does not like North Sea oil & Gas so wants to ban drilling, for it is nasty nasty stuff.
Strange, but there again I am older than the butty chewer, Miliband and I do remember a time when Labour bragged about the wealth that the North Sea offered, they were so enthusiastic for oil &gas back then.
1967 they turn the natural gas taps on, to a fanfare led by no other than, Anthony Wedgewood Benn, the rich lefty.
Harold Wilson was the PM then, and he wanted the country to be at the forefront of technology and then he, of course started to destroy the technology , Labour even encouraged our best brains to move abroad, made no attempt to stop the movement, Boeing, GE and the rest of the American companies could not get enough of or our best brains . They called it the Brain Drain, back then and no one gave a fig ! But the Tories were no better, they preferred the square mile, to be the centre of their world, pin stripped suits and bowler hats!
So you see, as Labour destroyed the railways to drive (no pun intended) us into cars, they turned on the North Sea taps which rang the death knell, of the coal industry anyone else remember?
You know the old Landed gentry were against educating the poor because knowledge is power, that is why 40 years ago the establishment started dumbing down our education, now we have politicians who cannot tell you what a man is or a woman is. Politicians who have no idea of what happened and by whom not so long ago.
