I vividly remember the series, will try and catch it on youtube.
It took nearly 30 years for Plimsoll the MP to get Parliament to make it law to have plimsoll lines marked on ships. if I remember correctly.

Why did a minister stand up and apologise for a blatant falsehood, stupidity, afraid of telling some people the truth, or did it suit their own political agenda?
If I remember correctly compensation was to be paid to these liars, no one in authority even enquired if this story was truthful, David Lammy, Diane Abbot, the BBC, or the Guardian never bothered to fact-check their story, because it fitted THEIR own narrative of institutional racism. Rather like the excuse that Asians were brought over to work in the mills in the North of England, in the 1950& 60s, the cotton mills were dying on their feet even then, and within 10 years were mostly gone.

If I was in a position (seriously) to make TV programmes I would love to make a series on the conditions of the British working class in the Victorian period. To dispel, the modern theory that at that time there was some sort of white privilege, in just being white. Why even up until the 1960s this country via the St Bernardos Children's charity, was transporting, for that is the true description of children to the Empire! They had no say, they were sent to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Southern Africa, to usually rural families so that they could work on the farms. What happened to these children afterward no one cared. In my lifetime children were sent to labour, in return for a roof over their heads and a meal, some would call it indentured/slavery. They were never offered a return trip home, akin to the old transportation of the destitute and petty criminals.

I agree poverty can be a perspective.
There can be enforced poverty and self-created poverty, should the two be treated the same?
I think many of those who did something to advance the conditions of the working class were Quakers, I do know that one of the largest slum landlords in 1880s London was the Church of England.
The present leader of the Church of England has yet to apologise for that, but I know why!
Truss, and her talk of rekindling some Victorian experiments is just fodder for the idiots, she would have to give freehand to the brightest, the best, remove the system that stifles ingenuity, the last time that happened was in WW2 .

I do not know if you have watched the series on the great ships that were built on the river Clyde, but I think you would find it of interest. An American sea captain visited Glasgow in the 1860s and wrote that he had never seen such poverty.
So much for the second city of the empire as it was known, and the councils and Scottish Government as in England and Wales are falling over themselves to apologise to whom?

There were no quakes as you put it, natural earth movements cause as much "quaking" and those complaining do you think they all lived within a mile of the fracking site? Coal mining caused more quakes, injuries, and deaths and for those who do not know the renewable industry kills and injures many people. Some countries have stopped the construction of turbines within 1500metres of buildings/roads because those eco-friendly blades can fly off, and turbines have collapsed.

Nothing is more essential than food, what do we do nationalise the whole food industry from collective farms to Co-op shops? The old nationalised gas and Electricity boards were far from perfect, but some control should have been maintained over ownership, and we have put practically everything of importance into the hands of foreign nationals or governments. And both political parties are equally to blame for that.

Yes we all kept falling for every lie at every election, I have now reached the stage where I will not bother voting again.
The dye is cast, and the country is past its tipping point. Like Lloyds Bank, the country is just a mirage, past its best and rolling down the slope into the mire. The best I can offer Brixton is to look after number one as our leaders have been doing for 1000 yrs .
And many Europhiles on this board and elsewhere keep saying Brexteers talk about past empires, well the only people mentioning the Empire these days are Remainers and immigrants, they need to keep the victimhoods going, why even remainers are now victims of some unseen injustice. Perhaps their descendants will be crying out for Brexit reparations in 200 years' time?

If all the politicians were not so partisan in dealing with the current crisis and worked together to untie the knot, they after all got us entwined in. With their joint but ill-thought-out ambition for MORE globalisation, mass immigration, becoming embroiled in other people's wars, and this their biggest mistake "we could trust Russia and China". We would find a way forward, but no, that only happens as in 1939, when their necks could get broken too, as well as any others, then they insisted on working together.
Why Labour is more concerned with Truss the woman than her policies.

On Brexit, I knew what I was voting for, but Teresa May and the establishment just did not want what we voted for to happen. Boris Johnson's idea of controlling borders is now plain to see, if the establishment could not fill the country with East Europeans and the EU's jobless they would look elsewhere for them, Boris was always a remainer like his father, brother and sister.

Several factors drive economic change, politics, trade, culture, demographics, social mobility etc.
Attempting to change a set and proven established method of doing things, will cause a change, attempting to change a country's energy supply too quickly could and has caused some of our present problems, as globalisation was driven hastily for the sole purpose of transferring wealth from A (west) to B (east). On par with a business whose new CEO decides to totally change what a business does, and how many times have businesses that existed for decades gone to the wall within a short time, to serve someone's vanity?
But no, we had basically poor or even failed politicians driving this change, for their own reward both financially and to feed their vanity. The same politicians who ironically want to save the planet will start a war at the drop of a hat.
Well we have seen politicians as we saw Johnson claim this will be done by 2030, well Boris is gone and his pledge with him. the PM of India declares India will be net zero by 2070, who will remember this in 48 years' time?

I know some make their living out of holding the shoots, but killing for fun is something I have personally never come to terms with. The Duke of Edinburgh was once head of the world wildlife trust, whilst at the same time blasting birds that can't really fly out of the sky. I find the Royals just pure hypocrites on so many levels.
But the above is my view we all have our own opinions.

This share is like the man in a wheelchair trying to reach the top of a steep ramp, just to keep rolling back down, it could be funny to watch a couple of times but after several years it is somewhat tedious, but it is like drug addiction, you can't let go. Death will come to some before this share gets to sixty pence.

On the Queen's right to object to planning laws, of course, she has the right, but I thought the royals were so caring for nature and the environment. But they do spend a lot of time killing anything that moves that can't shoot back!
If the grouse and deer had a 7.62 SLR rifle the royals would never venture out.

On the hydropower systems, I believe the queen had an objection over-turned against having a turbine installed in the River at Balmoral Castle. I believe she owns Balmoral Castle, so saving her some money comes first.

I do not know much about the Truss woman, but my suggestion to her is to sack straight away anyone whom she thinks is working against the country. Boris in his stupidity kept the slimy Sunak in position for too long. Like Patel working to her own agenda on immigration, MPs make the laws civil servants carry those laws through and Judges implement them. I suggest she has the job descriptions of Judges and Top civil servants reviewed.
