Depends on your interpretation of free, what about the journalists and people locked up and persecuted just because they express different views to the ruling party, what about your environment being destroyed needlessly just to make the few richer at the expense of the many and future generations.
Is Sky frer, or any of the other big media giants, no,are they unbiased, certainly not, they dance to the tune of Murdoch and other paymasters with ulterior motives.
You should be able to pick up the BBC world service for free, unless your government censors it.
The BBC is still the envy of most of the media channels and BBC drama is still outstanding and bought by most of the worlds other commercial channels because they are either unwilling to fund it or incapable of producing such quality.
The BBC shows excellent Scandinavian and European dramas which the other big channels tend not to because they prefer to shadow US dramas which are pretty poor in comparison , but cheap and easy to broadcast, with lots of adverts chucked in, unless you pay a premium subscription.
I agree the BBC isn't perfect, but far better than the majority and one needs to compare like with like and there are very few that can match the overall quality of the BBC.
Having said that Channel 4 when launched was ground braking and it continues to broadcast some excellent drama , entertainment and challenging investigative documentaries which quite often make it unpopular with our government of the day, and channel 4 is free, unless one pays a fee to go advert free!
