Khama pits Masisi against Ramaphosa11 Oct 2021 22:04
So today’s quiz is - why on earth would the former President (and dictator) be writing ‘emotionally charged letter’ to the President of SAfrica, Cyril Ramaphosa….. From the weekend papers:
“The former President, Ian Khama, has written an emotionally charged letter to the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa. In the letter, the former President calls and advises Ramaphosa to sanction President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi for subjecting South Africa, her institutions and citizens to reputational harm and embarrassment- a letter which Ramaphosa is yet to respond to.
The letter comes when the two countries are still at loggerheads over the P100 billion case, which Khama’s letter is predicated upon. The South African Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services recently revealed that they demand answers on Botswana concerning the case. In his letter to Ramaphosa, Khama says: “I retired from office at the end of my constitutional term. I then duly handed over to my successor Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi. In handing over to Dr Masisi, I facilitated a smooth transition of power without any reservation or incident.“
