Electric is 100% efficient at point of use, but it is not efficient to burn gas to produce heat to drive a generator to produce electricity and then transport electricity to your house.

Fair enough if you have a good renewables setup with storage, but then we get back to the capital cost problem.

Seav - the cases will stay live until settlement is my understanding. All cairn need to provide is a legal document that requires them to withdraw all cases following settlement.

Chrisa - in principle it is a much better solution than fossil fuels as it burns new carbon, and currently fills a hole that other renewables cannot.

All energy has a carbon cost.

Criticising of where the woody materials come from is fair game.

Yes we need to invest in transition, but destroying our standard of living to do it will lead to failure. The poor of the world are worried about surviving the winter, not the flooding or heat waves that might come in 30 years time.

And if the cost of living in the developed world goes up much further we will start to see the darker sides of humanity in our society again after decades of progress.
