Well, yourboyHK, Covid is something that we should learn to get used to. I knew that when all governments started talking about "The New Normal". It's something that exists, but without any proof in regards of the danger as such. In my mind it's a bit like a religion, when the priests say "This God exists, believe in it, but don't expect me to delivery any material proof, for I don't have and Faith doesn't require me having to proof anything to you".
How I decide may make a lot of hardened investors in this BB cringe :-) I go by: What do I like, what do I need and then I start thinking about if everybody likes and needs this also. I then research the company and if I don't like the website (some are so minimalistic, I could knock up a better one using Word for Windows alone), I look into who is running the company, are they trustworthy, do they have a track record of success or of failures (LinkED can help with that). I also check them out via Company House. I look into their plans for the future, because investing into what won't work in the present and hasn't worked in the past is futile.
I give you an example: I know that the future of mobility is in Electric Trick Vehicles, which will need batteries. I can't afford Tesla cars, but I might be able to afford shares in companies that are mining the components of batteries. I have looking into that come across a new generation of batteries, which are based on using silicon and lithium instead of graphite for their main components. I am now trying to figure out how much lithium these batteries will require. Lithium is something that is not THAT rare, but a lot of it happens to be in countries which are a bit 'shaky'. You see...it's not easy. On the bright side you learn stuff about stuff you never thought exists. Research also gives you a great inside about global politics. It's actually better than going to school ;)
