RE: Worst case scenario17 Aug 2021 11:09
Hi Lar, I have the same concerns. I just bought more this morning. Personally, I don’t see cineworld heading to bankruptcy if they lose the case. Interim results show nearly $500M in cash, and I think borrowers are likely to help the company too if it comes to that point. Also, in the event of a large payout, cineworld would not need to pay the entire thing immediately and would likely pay it off bit-by-bit.
Fact is that cineworld has a good case for themselves, latpulldown dissected the situation well yesterday and brought forward a few provisions in Canadian law that may help them. Even if all else fails, cineplex is claiming a phenomenal amount, many people have said that cineplex is being very over-the-top with it, and that the actual amount would be less.
Whatever the result is, I’m hoping we can deal with this as soon as possible and put it behind us. Very well may be the case that cineworld know they can’t payout $1.1B at this time, and are delaying it for as long as possible to cover themselves. Gone on for too long now and it’s likely a big reason why the sp has been flat for so long. Once this court case is behind us, and cineworld state how they’re going to payout if that is the outcome, then I think maybe we can restore some other larger investor’s confidence. All imo.
