RE: Cineworld/cineplex27 Jan 2022 22:46
Personally, my main concern was that when Cineworld would try to file for the appeal, the court would tell them to ringfence the funds. That would have been a total catastrophe, because CINE would then need to scramble for the funds (probably from lenders) and would need to have it ringfenced for a number of years, which would have resulted in an increase in our yearly interest payments.
When CINE announced the appeal was in and without the need to ringfence, it was a relief for me. It is an open secret that this will go on for years, so in the meantime CINE will continue to reap the benefits of the improving box office performance, increased concessionary sales and a nice cut in unnecessary spending. In due time, I think we will see profit in the company (and our investments) very soon. Hopefully CINE can enlighten us on their 2022 expectations and outlook in March, I would anticipate that they would go for a break-even result (maybe small bit of profit, but I don’t know if that’s pushing it)
PS: On the bright side, all of this talk about the Boris parties has kept the media busy. I don’t know how many are aware, but they’ve found a new Omicron variant that may be more transmissible. If the media wasn’t busy with Boris, they’d be all over this. Luckily, the new variant doesn’t appear to evade the vaccines
Have a great evening and all the best for tomorrow everyone :)
