RE: Sony launches 360 degree audio service accompanied by... live-streamed concert video15 Jan 2021 10:36
Hi Mel
Personally I don't think 5g roll out should have any influence on time-frame of the app as this is simply a case of speed of data transfer, with the limits of this a known quantity, as is the limits of 4g. This should therefore only truly affect the quality and interfacing of the VR equipment and how this tethers between phone and headset etc, not the planning and development of the app. With this is known and with the technological uptake of 5g happening with 5g phones now, by the time we have app roll out in autumn this should be firing on all cylinders. I'm not saying that the app should suddenly be available in 1 months time, but i do believe that an autumn roll out cannot be a raw beta testing phase, or the company will miss the boat. We do not want to be in a position where it gets rolled out only when 5g is booming, with a marketing campaign to follow and gain real traction 6 months later, and possibly 6 + months after that when people are next upgrading their phones. We would be looking at several years to make any real market imapct with this approach. In my view we want to be ready so people want to be taking up our app with their upgrades at the first opportunity and lets not forget that Autumn 2021 is at least 9 months from now. This should be considered by all to be a substantial amount of time to have this right. You can gaurantee that if spotify chose to move into the same space, that they'd be throwing lots of money at it and doing it in 3-6months.
As london says, this is not easy but it cannot afford to be bogged down in delays.
If there's any software programmers here that can shoot me down in flames then it would be welcomed to have some more targeted insight.
