Gents let's put this into perspective following that briefing....additional variants do present a risk and need to be monitored closely. In the interests of transparency and also to help keep pushing for people to adhere which ca only help if people continue to be extra cautious in everyday life, they've put that information out there. As Patrick vallance said, there's also studies which indicate no difference in efficacy. In addition to this, as Chris Whitty stated, even if less efficacious for preventing infection, the vaccines may still offer protection against sever illness which is the ultimate goal. If theres no severe illness, it goes back to being a cold once the vaccine has been received.
Lets add to this that Matt Han**** is a complete Buffoon, who is talkijg out of his proverbial about stuff that is unverified information in the public domain, "we don't know the data" and it "could put us back to square one". Are these the comments of the normal dithering Hancck, who just clearly keeps talking when he doesn't have an answer to a question in whatever setting he's in, or is this the manner of a man in the know who is measured, genuine and concise about what he says.
Fingers crossed it doesn't turn into a disaster variant - and I suspect that there's some serious questions about the SA and Brazilian variants because I suspect they were being tested in parallel with the British variant yet only the British variant has been given the thumbs up from Pfizer. I do not believe we're doomed however and there are will be huge money, time and brilliance being thrown at the new variants too.
Take that clown for what he is though, I just felt the need to express a more measured view of everything that Matt Hanck says.
Good luck everyone
