In a geopolitical moment like the current one, where there is a great scarcity of raw materials and mineral resources, many of them strategic, it has coincided in time with the significant increase in energy costs, which are skyrocketing worldwide, Therefore, it is urgent that the appropriate measures be taken to properly address the energy and digital transition in society.
In Europe, we import almost all the essential resources for the use of new technologies, being conditioned by external countries, as is currently being seen with the lack of microchips from the Asian market. The importance of critical minerals, whose supply may be affected on the one hand by their global scarcity, as well as by other geopolitical, economic and social constraints, must be urgently addressed and prioritized.
For all of the above, and if we do not want to be late for the sustainable development of future generations, it is necessary to address now a broad and strategic vision, compatible with the conservation of nature and with the social responsibility of developed countries, which allows response to the growing demand that critical minerals will experience in the coming years.
The execution of mining and energy projects, which interact significantly with the territory, obliges us to include in them the preventive and corrective measures for the impact on the environment, in accordance with the law.
In conclusion, it would be desirable to increase investments in mining projects for the exploration of new resources, especially in non-traditional minerals, such as lithium, cobalt, rare earths and others, given the large increase that they are experiencing and will experience in the future. almost exponential in the coming years, especially when we have significant reserves of some of them, such as lithium, in Spain.
