Soon you will see her in the historic Riotinto mine, in #Huelva! There, Endesa X and Atalaya Mining will build a photovoltaic self-consumption plant with 50 MW of power that will reduce the emission of 40,000 t of CO2, equivalent to the consumption of 173,000 barrels of oil.

The main objective is to reduce the environmental footprint of the mine, where electricity consumption represents 70% of the carbon footprint of the mining operation. ??

The 75,765 solar modules that will cover a quarter of the mine's energy needs, thus reducing its electricity bill.

LME warehouses across Europe hold just 1,350 tonnes of zinc, split between 1,325 tonnes at the Spanish port of Bilbao and 25 tonnes at the Dutch port of Vlissingen. Only 50 tonnes is actually available, the rest awaiting physical load-out.

With no stock why would you fire up a smelter. As I mentioned the other day have a look at green smelting. I’m sure the amount of heat produced in Spain they could use solar panel

Don’t suppose this helped last year either, now they are low on reserves and with smelter costs high and shortage of mining supply could bode quite well if we can get mine this very cheap and stock pile it for when prices come down will be very good.

If we can convert more to indicated this could well easily payback within 18 months - 2 years or extend LOM worth the investment at low capex.
Surely someone wants a project. In terms of distance from the smelter we are 200km about 125 miles which means trucking the ore would be cheaper however as you point out highside with the Glencore smelter being shut maybe it’s because of that. The other good news though is will this put other mining companies out of business therefore as an exploration company and not physically mining IMO we are in a very good position.

The problem is though smelters are producing less and there’s now a shortage of zinc because the contracts have to be met.
They have already started using up reserves which in our case could be a good thing because we’re not yet mining so to bring this to production and by the time they do things will have settled down. They are saying zinc could be the new nickel.
