If I can be allowed I'll axe IMT and BATS from my VPF '13,I see tobacco is to be restricted even more in many countries next year.I've no hope with those so I'm asking for permission to do that change.

One of my R/L shares, AFF might get a T/O from an Indian company it says in Telegraph though it's not a large holding for me.My VPF is probably beaten before it starts as not enough jazzy stocks,expect smokers to get a cough next year lol! Anyway the person last helps the others by holding them up!

The Britvic/Barr deal will finalise in md January I'm hearing.Also though still a "merger" the market is regarding it as a reverse takeover" of Britvic by the smaller Barr.No idea yet how the maths will finally work out,we might need to await events after the day.

obviously you know a lot more about this,than I do.Anyway a quick look at the AFF holders' list showed this to be quite illiquid- most of the shares in control of the directors or II's ,so control is quite tight.The number of shares is low,and there's no debts or loans.A strongish position for any negotiations then ?

I'd hope the board wouldn't sell this too low after those recent brokers' reports ( if that chance happened),their wording suggests "no",perhaps an investment might be better-they will decide... AFF certainly managed to negotiate a good deal from Liberia so the board are capable of that. Yes AIM is very undervalued.Production here won't be cheap but it looks feasible in this case,even unaided by others.Transport issues can be solved by road transport at least initially as I said a few months ago here.The iron ore market is depressed but once they have DSO going to a port it will sell.

No problem m8,and the statement sounds cautious,which might indicate company confidence in what they have...2 brokers put reports in the last 2 weeks- Panmure said 279p, Investec107p, both highlighted fact that present value is covered by cash reserves.

8.8% of AFF shares are given as in "private hands" at the AFF website,apart from institutions and directors.So the present trading volume of about 620,000 in a total share number of 105m is quite high,as.there must be about 8m shares in private hands,of course these "institutions" must be buying too ?

Still down a bit on this,hopefully in event of a T/O can rise more ? Otherwise this looks capable of at least holding here..one of fdew with large cash pile and good prospects for iron in several places.Yes there's always the pre production fall but the cash helps! A "strategic investment" might be best for all to make production easier.

LRL Leyshon Resources completes my list unless Britvic/Barr merge before 1.1.13 -if that I need one more...LRL has a good cash pile,low cash burn and has managed to buy back shares.It has several interests in China recently hitting gas quite near to existing pipelines.Of course with oil/gas I'm not too lucky and the name doesn't begin with "E" lol.Picking AIM shares might be disastrous or great!.. List=Britvic/Barr;AHT,BATS,IMT,PAF,LRL.

That's why this comp. is so hard,AIM shares might either blow the whole thing wide open, or win hands down. Your picks seem ideal to me but of course they did so last year too-,just bad luck in fact for you it was.It is all in the timing. A safety-first VPF though has less chance of winning it...

Of course you'd assume the new company SP would reflect the increased value so maybe it would be all right just to delete one name without any other adjustments ? Now my tiny mind is exploding!

I've been wrestling with this merger of Britvic and AG Barr. Barr are getting 37% and Britvic 63% shares in the new single company. Each contributes new shares to the new total which continue to move up and down-there's no cash released straight off from the deal.I should have a lot more than £10k worth of new shares then.How can this be tackled in the results as these assume there's an equal starting amount for all shares given ? Maybe the simplest way would be to give both the "Britvic" and "AG Barr" totals using the 63% and 37% respectively ? AG Barr are not being taken over but are merging, so it is unlike the case of the R.Wiseman takeover deal last year where I think we made the RW shares into a fixed amount of cash from then on for our comp...so this is probably still as clear as mud lol.
