The islanders didn't go to the FI for financial security - they in fact do quite well already from the fishing, stamps and tourism. They are not keen on "development" especially if it means more people. They suspect (rightly) that a fair bit of the oil money will be "disappeared" by the UK Govt telling them to pay for the military presence etc. They look at other tiny places such as Nauru and see what a disaster a large amount of cash can bring tiny places.

Offshore Sea Lion is fine as long as its limited to small bases on the islands. A vast increase in business and any LNG or refinery operation will never be allowed

If, as the UK has done, you make house owning the major personal investment of the people don't be surprised if they fight tooth and nail against anything (HS2, fracking, new roads, travelers accommodation, new houses) that they fear might damage their investment
