Dividends are important for two main reasons. They provide an income but more importantly they send out a signal that the company is doing well enough to be able to afford to pay dividends and that it also cares somewhat about the interests of its investors.

Well done JBatch. I'm currently holding MET1 at a loss. I will hang on until I reach breakeven, then decide what to do. Probably continue holding.

I bought RR at 643.63p in April . It's now 1030.50p and I'm still holding at a profit of 44.11%

However, just because I might sell all my MET1 shares in an instant, it doesn't mean that I'll sell them on a whim. That would break another rule which is, if you believe in the company, hang onto your shares through thick and thin no matter what the share price does, because if you don't you're likely to miss out on the good times.

There is also another basic rule to investing in shares:

Never, ever fall in love with a share.

I own shares in MET1 but I'm not in love with the company and I'll sell my shares in an instant if it doesn't perform on its promises.

When I look at a share, I look at the fundamentals and the share price chart. The chart tells me if people like the share and the fundamentals tell me if the business is making money and is likely to continue making money. I check analysts opinions. I also like it if it's paying a dividend.

MET1 doesn't meet any of those criteria.

MET1 is a story share. It is a cardinal rule that you never ever buy a story share.

However MET1 appears to have a good story. A potentially better story than many story shares. So I now own shares in a story share - MET1.

I bought because I like the story. I hope I don't regret it.

On the other hand, I also own share in Ithaca Energy. It's an oil company that makes excellent profits and pays damn good dividends.

It's not an exploration or drilling company. It simply buys up mature oil producing fields from the big boys who are selling them because they are past their production prime. It's production costs are minimal. Almost everything is profit and it returns a large chunk of the profit to shareholders in the form of dividends. It has bought up practically all the oilfields in the North Sea and is one of the major oil producers in the area.

Between MET1 and Ithaca I hope to be in a win win situation.

Dusty, thank you for your response. You seem to be almost in the same boat as me. We just deal with it differently.

I fid it difficult to value this company because the published accounts are from 2024 so are out of date and don't reflect what seems to be the current/potential value. They have apparently bought/gained control of potentially valuable mineral assets in Europe and the USA by the issue of warrants and increasing the number of shares to cover those warrants. That has resulted in significant potential dilution of the value of the shares. The company has no income. but it has no debt either.

I'm told that the shares are oversold.

I don't forecast what share prices will be, but I have been known to suggest what share prices might possibly be,. And been roundly mocked for it.

That doesn't matter to me. I'll probably carry on suggesting what prices a share might trade at. My failing is that I'm not a mind reader so I can't forecast what people will do..

Often say they never bother with discussion boards and, given the idiots this one attracts, like poor MEG and Dusty, I can see why.

MEG should stick to her music and Dusty should avoid charts.
