My apologies. I lack the expertise to answer your question.

However, if it helps a bit, HL is my broker. My shares are held by them on my behalf. They may also act as market makers. It would make sense to me if they do because they process so many trades.

For the sake of others who seem to have an opinion about HL and about those who use them as their broker, I see myself primarily as an investor who invests for the long term. I also hold shares in MET1 and I see them as a gamble, although I intend to hold them for a long time to see how they do. They are my one and only gamble.

I don't pretend to know more than a little about how the system works but I guess there are some longtermholders who pretend to know a lot. Not you , of course.

Thanks for that thoughtful opinion of what may be possible for MET1 shareholders.

My take is that MET1 has hedged its bets by investing in a number of possible areas so that if even only one or two of them pay off,

we all stand to gain significantly. How long that might take is open to question, but some reports suggest that the development of at least some of Met1's investments are reasonably well advanced.

If all Met1's investments pay off, we all stand to gain enormously.

You may have got wind of the fact that I've been on this earth quite a while and am not new to shares. I do know stuff but not as much as I would like.

It doesn't mean I'm brilliant at it but I know enough to generally keep out of trouble. I have made mistakes and MET1 might be one of them.

I agree about the crossed wires and I accept that the 85% are unlikely to be unknown. MET! will certainly know.

I got the list I quoted from the Stockopedia website. I was looking for a coherent explanation of the differences between the stockopedia list and longtermholder's list but I wasn't getting one. Not from longtermholder anyway.

You have been very helpful in expanding my knowledge and so, I think, has longtime investor in his way. I think he's tried to anyway.

I've printed off your excellent explanation and I'll use it as the basis of my research into the issue.

But I would hope for a more coherent explanation of how they operate than you have provided.

It's not my list anyway. It's the list that MET1 have provided.

I'm grateful for and understand your responses about how the system works, or is supposed to work. It's all added to my knowledge but it doesn't explain why MET1 only listed 15% of the holders and none of the other 85%.

I'll ask MET1 and see what they have to say

Thanks for that explanation MegRS300, It was very helpful and increased my knowledge.

However that doesn't tell me why MET1 only lists some holders and consigns the rest to the unlisted 85%.

Before your response, I assumed that it was because the 85% was made up of the individual holdings such as mine that were too small to be counted individually. That might, perhaps, still be the case, despite the fact they are in the nominee accounts held by Hargreaves Lansdown, etc.

I guess longtimeholder doesn't know.

I cannot disagree with you, except to point out the difference between the figures you posted and mine.

My figures were based on the holdings of individual people and entities who I believe owned shares in MET1 directly on their own behalf.

Yours seem to be from the holdings that major institutions held on behalf of myriad small private investors such as myself. I don't know if those holdings gave the major institutions the same voting rights as individual holders and entities.

For example, I believe that my miniscule private holding that I purchased through Hargreaves Lansdown gives me voting rights as an individual but I'm not sure it gives Hargreaves Lansdown the right to vote on my behalf. It was my choice to buy the shares, not the choice of Hargreaves Lansdown. Whatever my situation is vis a vis Hargreaves Lansdown, I guess the same applies to the clients of all the other major institutions on your list. That the holdings were not the choices of any of the major banks or institutions on your list but were the choices of their individual customers, and the voting rights that went with those share belonged to the individuals who bought the shares, not the institutions they bought them through.

Perhaps you can enlighten me?

I totally agree. There are occasions when it may be best to do nothing. This looks like it could be one of them.

I'm going to follow my own advice and do nothing but wait and watch.

According to the Williams%R today, MET1 is definitely oversold.

Dusty, please forgive me. I'm just an inveterate advice giver. It's nothing personal. I often give advice that's not asked for and at the same time fail to follow my own advice. It's a foible of the very old guy that I am.

Dusty, I have an investment strategy that is not age related and it works for me.

There are 10 sectors on the stock market. I try to invest in all of them because I never know which sectors will perform best. I try to invest in the two top shares in each sector. That gives me a basis of 20 decent diversified shares. RR and Ithaca are two of them. I also venture outside the basic plan into companies like MET1.
