scale-up the deployment of rapid diagnostics in response to the global COVID-19 outbreak.
Due to significant demand for our lateral flow development and manufacturing services we are
recruiting for experienced scientists with immunoassay and preferably lateral flow development
experience to join our York (UK) team immediately.
This team role involves taking projects from the point of feasibility through scale up and the transfer
into manufacturing. You will be required to maintain high standards during the development process
and work with colleagues across research and development (R&D), manufacturing, quality &
regulatory to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget

Its funny they have pulled the NHS app and yesterday CK confirmed the consortium are working on one. It absolutely needs test results to make an app worthwhile. Otherwise anyone with a common cold is going to cause half the country to self isolate by winter

We are expecting an RNS because there is a global pandemic going on and we are working on the global standard world leading antibody test to help save lives and get back to normal life, and we expect it to be ready for June.

No i think using confidentially he means privately within the business they are confident, not suggesting what he is saying is confidential. No chance he would say anything in email he wasn't happy to be made public property after yesterday!!!

Markets are all about deception. Learn not to fall for it. Patterns repeat, learn to spot them.

In terms of global markets, i think they have to open up other production avenues. Whether that's more capacity in the UK or giving/selling the design to overseas manufacturers. Omega and the other 3 companies will sell as many as they can produce and it will never be anywhere near enough no matter how much they upscale. Zero concerns about where the market is. Look at Americas for starters.
If these tests are as good as we expect them to be and they are the key to opening up the world again, you can't just hold the manufacturing in 4 small UK companies. It's in global interest to get as many produced as quickly as possible to service all markets. If you had a billion of these tests you would sell them tomorrow, and we can't even scratch the surface of that demand IMO

Once the test is developed each company will have the right to commercialise it. Government will be the priority supplier.
The plan is for Omega to supply Scotland, Abingdon England, Ciga N.I, and BBI Wales, with excess into the larger England Market. Then its any excess sell to private or public global market.
However many they make they will sell. There is no sunk cost for R&D as its consortium effort Government funded. SO its just selling price less marginal cost of production = net profit = free cash flow.

I'm not saying it's of no use, i am saying that congregating people into a testing area is high risk. It works with local testing areas at the moment because people drive in stay in their car and leave in their car only interacting with the tester.
But the reason for testing is beyond whether you infect anyone else during your journey. Other countries are not going to open up their borders on this basis, because the thing that is stopping travel is the closure of borders and stopping spread of infection from other countries. It's not just about whether transmission occurs on the flight, or during a concert or a match. They will not take this level of risk. Look at the super spreaders.
I think immunity is already 100% confirmed, what is unknown is the level of immunity and how long it lasts. Either way it wont reduce demand of antibody tests below the level that can be produced because there is still a need to understand the movement of the virus, identify those with plasma that may help in the fight against the disease.
I think the home swab kit has legs, but im afraid it's not key to unlocking travel and mass events. The ideal solution would be a home swab test and a home antibody test. Only by taking both do you know for sure, unless one tests positive before the other. Just remember the window for testing is 3-5 days ideally, which is such a short space of time. There are areas where regular testing may take place, like with the premier league, perhaps some corporations, but i dont see the regular testing market as big as some might think.

RH, fair post. Yes there is a lot of competition and a race to profit from Covid. Some of the companies are just hanging on to the hype. But a government backed test, which has no relevant competition in terms of gold standard, home testing, relevant approval will make this succeed long term. Especially when certification comes into play.

Refer back to the 5 pillars of the government strategy, 5th pillar to build a home grown leading diagnostics industry. Covid in the short term (2-3 years) will benefit the industry in the long term. This is not a bubble, it is a wake up call. The free cash flow this will produce over the coming years will provide significant investment for the growth of the industry.

BTW - here's the science behind why swab testing will not work to enable travel and mass events - the ideal testing time is 3-5 days, and 100% false negative on the day of transmission:

100% of the time on the day you are exposed to the virus. (There are so few viral particles in your nose or saliva so soon after infection that the test cannot detect them.)

Not another one of this talking about swab tests before getting on a plane.... It is floored. I wouldn't want to congregate in a testing centre where all the passengers from different flights and different locations are all going for the same test. Its kamakaze bottle necking everyone to get tested. How to most people get to airports, particularly London. Public transport. What if you catch the virus on the way to the airport or to get tested, its too early to produce a positive test, but during the flight and over the next few days you get sick??

This will never happen. Swab testing before travel or to enable mass events to take place will never happen. It is not in the strategy, never have the government talked about it. Scientifically it is floored because the testing window is so short.

The key to unlocking travel is immunity passports.

Wouldn't mind see it stabilise around 75p and have a few days of 5% rises just to calm down the volatility, or 85p fine too!

There’s one thing that doesn’t add up been bugging me overnight....

Why do the refer to 50m quoted in a daily mail article which has been largely discredited? The 50m as quoted at the time was what the Uk government were supper to be ordering. Are they just using this to cover up CK letting the car out the bag?

I am fairly certain that the combined capacity of the consortium is already in excess of 50m a year with plans to further up scale. It just doesn’t add up to me why they would talk about 50m and refer it back to the DM article. Also if there’s accuracy in the DM article 1m old then that’s a great sign for how far forward we are.
