Sorry but it's not wrong. It's in the last RNS. They have nothing more than a prototype and it is not yet ready for clinical validation.

My guess is the Salford trial is lab in a van testing and not self testing. It seems like what they are testing is the process and effectiveness of testing, rather than testing a certain type of test.

It looks like today is just about restrictions and not testing.... hang on a minute....

You do know that they are not supplying because you don't have an approved CE marked test.

This is the process a self test has to go through. Avct are at stage 3 i believe, so a long way to go.

Clearly you cannot prevent a viral pathogen entering the body. There is no external shield. It's about the body's ability to prevent the virus taking host cells and reproducing.

Anyway, my point was nothing to do with comparisons, it was in reference to the ambitions of testing 66m people every day.

TripHop - Was your niece ill? Returning 2 positive antigen tests does not disprove the immunity response. If she was not ill, that proves it.

Timster - The research is still unfolding. Yesterday it was talked about reinfection not leading to illness. There has been no single case of reinfection leading to illness. Question is with reinfection can you still be infectious? IMO this is the last bit of the science. Clearly you cannot stop viral pathogens entering the body. The question is does the immune response shut down reproduction of pathogens before you become infectious. Nobody has been reinfected and had illness.

But on the same mark, an antigen test doesn't guarantee you have not been infected. It could mean the viral load hasn't reached a detectable stage.

There is no perfect solution, it's whether solutions are fit to save lives, detect the virus and control the virus.

What would be the public response if they announce home antibody tests and say they only have enough for less than 2% of the population??? Mass testing is mass testing, it has to be for the masses.

I mean the maximum capacity of all UK based diagnostics tests has to be a fraction of 462m tests a week!!! How do you manufacture and distribute? Think of thee waste in the plastic. The carbon footprint of the distribution?

Antibody tests could provide immunity certificates to make a certain percentage exempt, but it would still be upwards of 50m people. How do you prove an individual has taken a test before leaving the house?

There is not a chance we could all take a test every morning. That's 24bn tests a year or 462m per week. Ludicrous.

First stage has to be immunity passports. Mass antibody tests reduce 66m people down to say 50m. How can you test 50m people every day? Simply it is logistically impossible, unless you had some kind of reusable test. Can anyone come up with an xmas advent calendar with an antigen test behind each window??!

I would assume a self test antigen test will have to go through the same process. As far as we know, AVCT have not even started clinical validation yet and appear to be at the initial validation phase before design freeze. With Mologic, the first we will hear going by the Antibody test, is when Mologic CE mark the test. The fact that it has been used in a live trial is a good indicator of progress.
