Think BP themselves don’t know what will happen with it.
Whether Rosneft will be allowed to pay it to BP,whether BP will be allowed to accept it without some more backlash from the virtuous.
In theory it will still accrue and be there for a buyer as part of settlement.
This is not a normal process, and probably nearest parallel would be things in WW2 ,but they would be for what are now tiny sums of money.
It’s still only day 3 of Bp without Rosneft think some visibility will start to appear nearer results day.

One other choice if it drags is create off balance sheet company with same shareholders as BP and just park it there until something happens to allow it’s value to be recognised.At which point all shareholders get a bonus.

I think it needs to start as a write off, but there is lots could happen.
1) Russians could give a token payment and say in the circumstances that is what it’s worth.
2)someone could buy it at a discount as possibly distressed sale
3);Russia just nationalised it.
4)Russia nationalised it and UK gov nationalised something of theirs in return and sold it to give to BP as compensation
5) Putin has an accident and suddenly Russia tries to blame him and be friends again.
Probably lots more scenario’s
The longer it goes on ( meaning the sale) the better our opinions become.
Think for Russia option 1 makes most sense offer us 10 billion at 1billion a year( which is what div was worth).Could we afford to turn it down and get zero.

All those reserves were reserves at 60 dollar oil only 1 year ago.
BP reserves from 1 year ago are now worth more than twice what they were only a year ago.Some they took of their book are now worth another look.
I think although this was not something I would have picked to happen, it will in the long run be very positive for BP especially if we manage to get cash for Rosneft

The only risk I see is if high prices cause serious demand destruction.
I am personally quite sure this will not happen in a major way as after covid there is still a lot of pent up demand eg holidays etc.
If Russian crude and gas imports are cut back that just means more for us.

Reserves may not matter as much if they end up as stranded reserves.
Since BP was going to shrink company by 60% I assume most of that happened Sunday,and they will now not divest nearly as much as planned.
I think BP was listed as having reserves for approx 10 years.
I would think BP might be in the market for a few add on purchases,whether a small oil company or equity in fields for sale ,as they were already doing exactly that.

10,750,000 shares were bought back yesterday.
This must have helped support price.
Think with the reason for the fall being due to decisions of the BOD they will find a reason to buy up till next result reporting.
They can always claim it’s due to employees share scheme dilution and don’t think Anyone will question it.

I think it was really important that Rosneft new first.
If they had been last to know I think that would have guaranteed the worst possible end.
Not a clue what ending we get, may be down played so eventually we are happy we got anything.Time is on our side as Things can only get better

Think it’s amazing how many News organisations have managed a headline
BP sells Rosneft stake or very similar words.
When you look at article is usually says hope to sell, or BP don’t know what they will do with stake.
Who needs to be accurate when your only reporting news

And how could I forget oil price up 10% since results day

Think with yesterday’s announcement most of the risk premium has left BP.
With sp dropping 15% from the high a couple of weeks ago,buyback will make much more bang for buck.Return from div nearer 5% again.
Like you say few days to consolidate around these prices.
Everyone will understand better what has happened,and possibly (one can always hope).the Ukrainian problems will be resolved in a way that the Ukrainian are happy with.
Then we may have a very good floor to batter through £4.
The company is now very robust financially compared to a few year ago, and only going to get even healthier.

It feels really weird to be happy with a down day, but these are really weird times.
Think it draws a line to close of a few concerns going forward

Volume of trades appears to have slowed quite a bit, with much fewer big trades.
Hopefully that means buybacks are driving sp slowly upwards.

Think Bernard now has the political capital to prevent any takeover , other than possibly Shell.
He may have already told them what they wanted could leave them vulnerable.
If not he can make it plain in any takeover battle that it was politicians who put him into this situation and he expects them to stop it.

Don’t have level 2 but was looking on this site 15 min ago and there were 2 70,000 trades and one of over 4,000,000
Looked back about 2 minutes ago and never seen it so busy( but I do not look often) trades are charging down and off the screen n couple of seconds.
Saw another almost 50,000 trade not sure on here if buy or sell

Very interested to see where sp goes today as it’s very hard to call.
Hopefully the trolls are all busy elsewhere.
Filtered someone for first time yesterday and it does make a difference.

I said about a month ago it’s never dull being a BP shareholder.
Boy has that turned out to be an understatement!
