You may be right
in my opinion it’s oil price and div that will establish sp , there are a lot more variables out there than usual.
I always hope in a couple of months there is more visibility, then things get even more confusing

I have been considering for a while now if it’s maybe time for us shareholders to start a campaign against the windfall tax.
Jakers summed it up a few weeks ago with a comment about a family member who thought he must be rolling in it , and his reply to point out income cut in half original investment dropped by about 25%.
I would have brought this up earlier , but think time not just right with the war in Ukraine.
But when time is right , think we would all need to write to our MP, leader of Labour Party , and local BBC station.
Would welcome any thoughts and also an idea of anyone who is in favour.

Wakey Wakey it’s Dividend week

If you believe the high oil price is here to stay
ONE DAY it will reflect in the sp.
If you have time or luck on your side and you also believe the story from the BOD
then it looks a no brainier to reinvest, however just now sp not doing what you would expect ie oil price up sp ,whatever it wants usually down.
As you see below I intend to reinvest as I believe the value of the company to be higher.
This is just an opinion,and should be treated as such.
It’s definitely not me saying reinvest will work for you ( or me).
Just with enough time I think it will payback

Not sure if the rally only happens if you actually reinvest , but often when I have it’s been a wee mini rally ,you buy then anything can happen.
I have a couple of £1000 to reinvest , so will probably put my money where my mouth is and do it , but it’s already my biggest position by a huge amount.
Long term I believe the story , it sounds like it makes sense so as a very long term holder, I think as some time sp will work for me.
I wish I knew when

You can never be confident with BP ,even when there is no bad news you can still get a negative headline.
They can’t help themselves.
You would think the press would be glad to have a world class company like BP.
But it’s nothing new to bash them , and sometimes balanced reporting or truth are not allowed to get in the way of the story.
Looking for a mini rally up to div reinvestment Fri/Mon/Tues.
As always time will tell.

The problem is some information posted here is just plain wrong (occasionally)
Some just believe because it’s on the internet.
Some peoples version of research appears to be simply post me a link if something is posted without a link,that worries me,but may just be an age difference thing.
On a separate issue, don’t know if you read the earnings call transcripts for BP, but they make interesting reading for any BP shareholder.
You can view historical transcripts,they are easy to find and in various sites
If you are already doing this ,then good on you as many here were still not looking at them less than a year ago.

I agree totally unfortunately there are newbies who assume that whoever posts the most must know the most ,unfortunately in some cases empty vessels make the most noise.
There are some very knowledgeable people on here , but some have their own agenda and don’t care about anyone else.
Everyone must do their own research and own their decisions.

I think that will be a final outcome for BP , but I think you are probably about
10-15 years to early.(timing may vary).
It would allow true value to be found as those who want an oil company would keep their oil shares and those who want green would keep the green, and people like me would keep both.
If they get their renewables plan right one day it may be the oil side of the company holding back the green side.
Time will tell

glad to see you appear to have cheered up Mark.
Traditionally BP sp is likely to move upwards in the days leading up to the div being paid ( to trap anyone reinvesting the div)
So that might give you a little positive to look forward to.
Also you will have this board in a positive mode to look forward to as well,as it’s been anything but cheerful lately,for obvious reasons.

BP as a long term hold will make you money at some point.
The problem is when.
At current sp until very recently they have been buying back shares in large amounts.
Debt in being lowered rapidly,so costs to run BP are lowering.
As a bonus oil price average for this quarter will be about 25% higher.
The real problem is sp does not reflect this for some reason.
I assume it’s because div was cut, and until reinstated sp is being held back.
When div finally returns to historical levels at your entry point you would do really well.
I am still bullish LONG TERM.
Many on here are not currently very bullish due to pullback from £4 while oil price rise’s.
As always it’s just my opinion and some others will not agree.
The switch into renewables will start to pay from about 2025 onwards.
If you think oil price will stay high BP will make tonnes of money,it’s just how much they give back to you that counts.

It was unexpected so seems best to pause and think things through.
It’s amazing how much hysteria it has generated.

I find that both sets of views are useful in making sure that your ideas are challenged.
I would never like if everything was just one sided,as it’s easy to become biased and not examine all the evidence.
I find the current pessimism just a bit overdone with fundamentals where they are, but sp would get anyone down.
But as you say the list of unknowns is getting larger again.
I also realise there are some heavy losses out there,as obviously I also have here.
I did average down a bit,so my recent purchases average about £3 ,so some parts of that average are making a reasonable return.

Fourth quarter interim dividend for 2021
Payments of dividends in sterling

On 8 February 2022, the Directors of BP p.l.c. announced that the interim dividend for the fourth quarter 2021 would be US$0.0546 per ordinary share (US$0.3276 per ADS). This interim dividend is to be paid on 25 March 2022 to shareholders on the share register on 18 February 2022. The dividend is payable in cash in sterling to holders of ordinary shares and in US dollars to holders of ADSs. The board has decided not to offer a scrip dividend alternative in respect of the fourth quarter 2021 dividend. Dividend reinvestment plans have been made available for this dividend for ordinary shareholders and ADS holders (subject to certain exceptions) to receive additional bp shares.

Sterling dividends payable in cash will be converted from US dollars at an average of the market exchange rate over the three dealing days between 9 and 11 March 2022 (£1 = US$1.31266). Accordingly, the amount of sterling dividend payable in cash on 25 March 2022 will be:

4.1595 pence per share.

Perms bear I sold at £6.08 in 2010 months before oil spill after a year of rising sp so don’t think downswing since 1997 is quite true.
The oil spill stopped sp in its tracks and is still a source of pain to BP even now( spill payments and higher debt).
I understand the negatives being voiced here about dropping sp,but the company financials must be better with 100 dollar oil, than Ave 70 dollars in last quarter.Rosneft is still an ongoing problem whose solution has a wide range of values( from zero to full value at this oil price).

We also had record debts as well especially against Market cap of company.
Someone on here suggested that by year end with this oil price we could be near debt free.
Once free cash no longer pays debt what can they do with it?
Only div or acquisition,as doubtful buyback could use that much extra cash without hitting limits.
I never stay in a company who’s management I do not trust,I would rather take a loss and book it against a profit somewhere else ,then start again in a company I want to be in.
I know some here are sitting on big losses and it’s not so easy to cover that.
Maybe if the story was pay down debt the management should have communicated it better.
The div goes up one day.and so will sp
