It looks like it will be a good quarter.

I think it may come down to production volumes and trading for if it’s a great quarter

I have always felt that if Hydrogen did make it as a a transport fuel, it would be shipping that made most sense.

You only need the infrastructure in the ports.

Which means you can concentrate your production centres and possibly use offshore wind.

It’s nice to hear all views, and I think it’s all more complex than many think.

What do I believe

I believe it’s very worrying we are breaking climate records frequently.

I believe it’s unlikely that oil and gas will disappear in my lifetime ( hoping for another 30-40 years)

I think BP can be nimble and do some of the renewables well

( eg Lightsource BP), and also the partnership model working with the best helps.

But it is unlikely that we will get it right everywhere.

If we work out what we are good at and also can make money from then it might end well.

We must not try to be everything unless we are good at it.

It’s nice to have an active board at the weekend

It’s close to my thinking, only mine is more a feeling , you have followed a train of thought.

The reason I did my little poll was at one time an anti renewables post on here would often get 5 or 6 or 7 recommendations.

Lately often it only been maybe 2 or 3 , and I wondered if maybe slowly the anti renewables posters had been selling up, or had just stopped being so vocal.

In the interest of full disclosure

I must let you all know my wife intends to sell her last 5,000 BP shares.

The last 3 times she did this I purchased them from her to sell later.

This time I do not intend to buy them off her .

Each time despite not following the market or BP she managed to find the top.

Including the approx £5.70

So you have been warned

I’m not saying the sp will go down, all I am saying is somehow she managed to do it to me 3 times where I could have bought approx 50 p within a fortnight.

So it might just happen again.

I think in some cases wind is the answer.

When you fly into the Canaries you see masses of wind turbines.

In special cases like that where most energy sources have to be imported I think your own wind ( if you will pardon the expression)makes real sense.

Orkney Shetland and the Scottish Island’s are a similar situation

Your own wind turbine on your own property ( business or private company) might also make sense .

Many ports abroad have wind turbines in the harbour area because they can generate for their own needs.

Is wind the answer for BP

I was just interested in how much support each camp had.

It’s often assumed I am for renewables.

I am for anything ( legal and good practice) which makes cash.

I do understand that Exxon etc could make shed loads of cash, but Looney appears to see that as a certainty in some of the renewable areas.

I think sometimes all renewables get lumped together, but some will make very good returns and some very possibly won’t.

No strong feelings on the subject.

Or don’t actually care about it.

Retain BP current strategy on Renewables, with the assumption that we concentrate on the ones which make money, and either renegotiate those that don’t or stop spending major sums in the least money making ones.

Literally as Happy and Theaky state.

Get out of renewables

I am curious by nature( nosey) and wondered what the thoughts of the people who post on the board are to BP and their renewables.

So will do a simple poll ( not very scientific).

It’s not about Looney as boss or the div policy simply about the renewable policy.

Can anyone who can be bothered recommend which of the next 3 posts is how they feel

Strangely our whole business model is based on high initial capital outlays.( and always has been)

No body asked if Forties or the whole Alaska project had paid back its initial capital.

All people were concerned with was the cash they brought in.

It’s always been a case of todays profits pay for investment in our future cash generation.

The green renewables just seem to get judged differently.

Some of Markgo’s figures were very encouraging

We all obsess about the share price day to day,( and I am at least as bad as anyone here).

But in reality with increasing oil price and higher refining margins, and higher oil prices,rising earnings are a certainty.

If the trend carries on till the spring thats a lot of cash coming in.

Some of the extra cash no matter what will find it’s way to us.

Even if it all goes to buybacks( not totally my preferred route), then div hike can be bigger as more affordable.

As long as oil price stays in current range the future is very bright.

It’s very unusual to be able to say we don’t even need the oil price to rise,we just need it not to fall.

I would have to say it’s a bit safer than a massive tank of inflammable petrol underground and up to 20 petrol pumps and cars on the only road into or out of a massive supermarket, with hundreds of people in it.

And we have them everywhere( and often a McDonalds)

I remember my first major milestone with the dividend when my half yearly BP div finally covered my car insurance.

It felt good ,then next year they went to quarterly div and I had to wait another 3 years for the quarterly div to be large enough to cover the car insurance.

It’s a very nice job perk to have, and is some extra income that’s always welcome.

Currently div per quarter just over £2,000( you can do the maths).

It pays for the holidays

Prior to oil spill div per quarter was way over £4,000.
