Mud logs are pretty easy to interpretate. When the mud pumps are on there should be no influx of gas.. The problem is after drilling a stand down(94 feet) the pumps are switched off and a connection is made( the ECD (equivalent circulating density 200psi) Is lost on the wellbore. That is when the gas enters as in the circulating overbalance is lost for about 5 minutes whilst making the connection until the pumps are back on and circulation is resumed. On the way up from the bottom the gas will expand. It is often hidden in Oil base mud and comes out of saturation at what is known as bubble point usually circa 1000 feet from surface. If the driller and loggers do not see the first influx on pumps off ON BOTTOM they had better see it now!!!! Otherwise they will have a big kick near to surface. SHUT THE PUMPS OFF AND SHUT THE BOP!!!!!The logs will show the influx and when it came in.
Rule of thumb is after a connection and bottoms up strokes(ie how many pump strokes does it take to move the volume of mud in the annulus(outside the drill pipe) to surface if the gas peak at surface is constantly increasing as in from 6% to 8% to 10% on every 94 feet drilled the mud weight is too low and needs to raised.
You can only raise the mud weight by so much otherwise you will take losses as you are overbalance and EXceeding MAASP. Any where near the maximum mud weight (within about 0.4 ppg of max) a casing string or liner has to be set
Basic hydrostatic laws apply. If you take a kick Boyles Law applies.
Tomorrow We shall do interpretating wireline logs as I will have to check up on that one. Google resistivity in wireline
logging. On the graphs one goes to the left and one to the right but can not rememeber which is which???

Hi Noix,
I was in drilling most of my life and ended up being a well control instructor and HP/HT specialist on the rigs on wells over 15,000 psi. I was also a well intervention instructor which included wireline, coil tubing, completions and calculations involving producing well kills. I know about porosity and permeability and many other little things. I did geology at Uni after 23 years on the rig but really was not good at it. The 7 ways to heaven were not my forte?

We did not drill the well(Alkaid). We know very little about what they have bought apart from the 2 billion barrels!!! The AGM will tell us on 14th. We have to wait and see. I am hugely optimistic for the first time in years. I could do with the break in my old age.

Let us hope so. We are still 10 days away from the AGM and to see this today surprised everyone. Maybe one of the big players bought into this on the release of the new shares which are not issued yet? A good week for a change

I wonder where you put them? Hopefully this is the corner being turned and some clever people doing the drilling for a change. Really hurts me personally how this was badly drilled by Vision when the answers were there.

Oilers are rocking and rolling on the WD40. I could not believe BP dropped below £5 last week and hammered it!!!. over 6% divi quarterly paid. Not my usual but when you get to my age safety first??

My 55th birthday is in July. Just to get to 55p by then would be a help for the SIPP. Not going to AGM this year but need to get timing for the 3 immediate upcoming wells. 1. sidetrack Polk well, 2. well test Alkaid(maybe I need some Alkaid) 3.Spudding Winx. If anyone is going let me know please how it went this year. I am sure there will be a press release at 10am that day so will see that.

Side wall coring is not the same as coring. Coring is vertically done with a core bit. Side wall coring is done using electric wireline. Just google it as I am not good at drawing on this billboard???

Should be good. We have seen no data but at the point where they stopped they must have been confident to side wall core. Again as always worried about length of time shut in. The guys up there are much more adept at drilling, completions and wells shut in for long periods due to infrastructure and ability to access the sites at times. Vision as I have always said let us down hugely.
They are now gone and the new boys in town will supervise the show on the rigs from now on which has been lacking greatly in the last 5 years. The supervisors on site can make or break a well. As with the overweight mud in one well to say the least. At least we get news every so often now. 88E used to give a weekly drilling update which I thought was a bit much BUT any news is better than what we have had???

The well is ready for testing. Again shut in a long time. The well was side cored so they know where to perforate to bring the well onto test. This could be great for us.
The drilling time periods in the North are different from the South due to the land getting swampy in the Summer and mosquitoes everywhere. So they drill in the winter there and drill in the summer in Texas. RNS every month of the year???

Normal placings would reduce share price dramatically. This is a placing with a whole different ball game. Great Bear has to get the 2 wells by end May 2019. They have no money to do this. We are taking the risk but the upside is huge. When I first saw this I was annoyed but now I have done some research I think this is superb. I have not been this happy with PANR for about 3 years. 6 months time we will see, But it really could not have got any worse than it has been?????

This looks like a wonderful deal. I am a quick reader. I do have friends outside the oil industry and in the City. Hangovers are gone now and maybe they will see what this means. This could be awesome. They have a drilling department up there and expertise. WE do not have that even with Vision we never had it. Between the 2 of them they can sort out East Texas and get Alaska going as well. Next 6 months should be great finally.(I might even have to take my 50p off the table last week and eat my hard hat.)

Having just read through it all, Arco drilled the pipeline well in 88. Jay and Philip could both have been around Arco and Alaska at that time if memory serves me right. There could be more to this than meets the eye??? I just hope we are not on a Canadian(I know Alaska is USA) Goose chase.

Thanks for the reply, but if you are sitting on a well to test and 500,000 million barrels in the ground surely you could borrow 1 million to test it???? I am an oil man. If I had drilled it and knew it was good I would have asked the drill crew to chip in and test it....... A touch,only a touch of sarcasm.

2 billion barrels for 10 million dollars? When it sounds too good to be true it usually is!!! Just have to wait on the well test up there now. At least something else is going on for a change although I do not know what.

How the hell did we end up Acquiring more assets and not deal with the ones we have? If the well in Alaska is ready for testing why are they not doing it themselves? Personally if I had drilled and cased a well ready for testing I would test it before selling it???????????//

Of course I am at it. I am half cut on a Tuesday afternoon with nothing else to do. Poring with rain unlike the Nazca plains.
