Buyers were happy to pay 150p for RR only a few months back before Omicron came along. Now that the variant has actually done us a HUGE favour and put us into the pandemic endgame, all we need is evidence that RR is recovering and the SP should rise quickly (on 24th Feb?). But if it eeks out a 10% increase over the year i'd still be happy.
If Lloyds are offering 10 year mortgages at 1.66%. Does this mean they don't expect interest rates to rise much in that time? Or are they lending money that from a fixed source such as a bond and not just customer deposits?
I would have thought interest rates may rise back to something like 2% but doesn't seem likely if banks are happy lending it out for less .
With global gas prices at record highs, we need to double down on ?????? ?????????????? ?????????? The more clean, affordable power we generate in the UK, the less dependent we'll be on imports Nuclear = energy security
RE: Omg read it like its meant ...it's a bit of fun!!!27 Dec 2021 20:47
The main thing is Falky didn't win with his 90p guess as that would have ruined my Christmas.
Now that Omicron is looking like a damp fart, what else is stopping RR from a decent rise? Apart from the yanks getting a big wave but can't see them shutting down.
Pandemic waves peak when infection levels reach a saturation level.
For previous waves and variants, every single country has reached saturation at levels much lower than 30% despite the restrictions. In Gauteng, Omicron appears to be peaking at 10%. Even if they are still rising there, they're not going anywhere fast. So if this happens in the UK, then it'll peak after infecting 6-10million. Based on the growth rate it won't take too long.
RE: Finally the detail about the first Omicron Death.! Unvaccinated.!16 Dec 2021 23:28
How old was he? 82? Was he really healthy? Or just didn't have any diagnosis on his records. Law of statistics, even with 67 million people even healthy ones drop dead of minor illnesses.
On another matter, the Government must already know how serious Omicron is (it isn't) but they're just bare face lying about it. What happened to the Porton Down testing weeks ago? The boffins already know the impact of the virus. If it was really a 'we're fkd' ( moment, surely they'd be opening the Nightingales and locking down weeks. Actions speak louder than words.
I don't buy Chris Whitty's argument about how we can't compare to Africa because of their multiple waves and population age. We've had MULTIPLE waves and MULTIPLE vacco's. If anything we should be better off.
This will burn itself out in a couple of weeks and RR will be back to 140p again. IMO.
This is why the Government is not equipped to deal with pandemics. They are NOT assessing the full impact to these restrictions but playing party politics to get one over the other side. Screw the country for the individual greed and lack of taking personal responsibility. Only 8 labour voted against vaccine passports.
Millions have had covid in the UK. Millions have had the vaccine. More than 90% has anti-bodies. Nothing is going to happen except Boris is about to lose his job.
Is this the end of the pandemic? No restrictions will be needed to protect hospitals in any way in any country. Gauteng, South Africa has peaked with case levels similar to Delta, but with deaths expected to be 25 times lower.
