Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked United States President Joe Biden to delay sanctioning Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing information it received from unnamed sources familiar with a phone call between the two presidents.

Even though the US Treasury Department made preparations to penalize Abramovich, Zelensky reportedly told Biden to postpone the move as one of the richest Russians may assist as a mediator in peace talks with Moscow.

Abramovich was sanctioned by the European Union and the United Kingdom.

This is helpful somewhat. At least our poster boy is seen as doing something positive but whether that brings any rewards..

Western Governments should NOT be trying to gain complete independence from Russian commodoties such as oil and gas because how else will they be able to sanction them in the future? They'll just get their money from elsewhere now.

Western companies should NOT leave Russia because how else do they spread the word of capitalism. They should be doing the exact opposite long term and getting more multi-nationals over there.

BP should have told UK GOV stick it and stay out of geo politics. By all means apply sanctions now but lift them ASAP when the war ends.

I thought maybe in time Evraz would be seen as something like a sin stock such as the cigarette companies (BATS, IMB etc). Of course certain people would avoid out of principle but at least it'll be a free choice.

Then there's the other possiblity of a regime change. If Putin disappeared in the near future there could be a 'reset' of the relationship to Russian companies. It's a small chance but probably more likely than winning £25 on the premium bonds lol.
