There's talk about Ukraine eventually retaking Crimea but there's no way Russia will ever give it up due to the strategic importance to the Black Sea fleet. Not to mention their Dachas in Yalta.

The alternative is he does a mobilisation and the war continues but then it'll be about attrition and the West has all of the cards (and high tech components). Putin has a window of opportunity and it's shrinking.
