The White House has proposed using assets seized from Russian oligarchs to compensate Ukraine for damage caused by Moscow's invasion of the country.

This would enable "transfer of the proceeds of forfeited kleptocratic property to Ukraine to remediate harms of Russian aggression," the White House said in a statement.

The compensation idea is part of new proposed rules ratcheting up economic punishment on the Kremlin, two months after it invaded its neighbor in an attempt to topple the government and seize territory.

POG already defaulted on the $201.0m 'immediate' payment that was dated the 21st April. How come we're expecting worse things to happen now the interest payment is also due?

In the last financial results RR had £7.1bn of liquidity including £2.6bn in cash. Plenty in the coffers.

I think the lifting of sanctions will be a caveat of peace deal. No way Russians would sign something and let the West continue to sanction them ad infinitum. Bank sanctions probably near the top of the list.

Hopefully the Ukrainians give Russia a proper walloping in the east with the new heavy weapons that have arrived. It might put some focus back on the negotiations and some leverage to Ukraine.

@Newdealz. Spot on. I think it's all about Putin positioning himself. He wants Crimea and it was the sticking point during the negotiations. Not sure about the land bridge but definitely the 2 Donbas Oblasts.

One puzzing thing is how come Putin hasn't reacted much to NATO sending in the heavy kit? Now howitzers, MLRS, APCs, tanks, MIGs etc. Is it because they are looking to finish (by 9th May?). Peskov said on that Sky interview that the operation will be over in the coming days. Not months or years.

For me NOTHING has fundamentally changed, we've got the SMR design in GDA review and flight volumes are recovering by the day. All systems are GO.

I was originally for the peace deal but cannot see Russia actually being serious about it. The best thing now is for the West to supply as much weaponary as it can (via the now open supply lines past Kyiv) and inflict huge losses on the Russian army as possible. If Russia cannot win then Putin is done for. He's pinned all of his power on success in the Donbas now.. considering the relationship between him and Western leaders is irrevocable.
