January, many thanks for your clear explanation of how our tax losses will be treated and how EPL will affect us this year and onwards.
Apologies also to anyone who felt I was being critical of their previous postings concerning tax losses. Not so, simply my pathetic understanding of how tax will affect us.

Thanks Pelle, that gives a somewhat better view of expected EPL impact, however it does not , anywhere, give allowance for previous tax losses. So I take it that Enquest’s very significant previous tax losses will not mitigate our exposure as some on here have advocated.

Romaron, re your input on the above, my understanding with respect to tax losses is that Enquest does not get an out of jail card and the losses are no shield against paying the windfall tax. That understanding has been gleaned from many posters on this board.
As a LTH , 5+ years, I obviously would love you to be right in your assessment, but like many I am confused on whether our tax losses are any protection.
At the very least I hope next weeks operational update clarifies this , failure to do so will in my view, show a gross lack of leadership.

Be helpful if some of that reality found it’s way onto the pages of the Guardian, but that’s like asking them to set up a climate change convention on the industrial complexes in China, the USA and India. Be lucky indeed Romaron. How much will we need to counteract power hungry global politicians who see oil and gas as weapons to retain or gain power irrespective of the worlds need for them. We look to have an opposition party who are intent on ignoring the fact that we have no sensible transition plan to net zero, but will cheerfully echo the “ kill the fossil fuels “ clamour. As a nation we are zapped whichever ideology is in power. Not luck we need my friend, it’s a miracle. Are you any good at praying ?

I despair of politicians, of all hues. The conservatives have completely screwed their chances of maintaining power beyond the next election. Labour are shooting fish in a barrel led by people who will do and say anything to virtue signal.
I seriously doubt there are any on the opposition benches who care a fig for the UK energy industry, if it goes to hell in a handcart they will blame the Tories or Putin , while at the same time claiming credit for stopping oil. Jeez we are in the 1970s again.
