Comment in FT about M&S claiming £100m from Cyber Insurance. May be seen as a positive or negative! Who knows but would be good to start getting some more info

The opposite accountant. The extent of the problem is severe and far reaching. We are still not trading online. I said right from the start that customer data loss was the inevitable due to nature of attack. I have posted my thoughts many times and most times shot down, having been a LTH here I want the company to succeed but the writing was on the wall in n the initial announcement, being able to get out £4+ was a gift.

This is not over, I think there is more bad news to come, the hard part now is to try and work out what is priced in. I remain out but at the same time I'm confident buying at these levels you won't be at a loss in 12-18 months. The question is will there be better buying opportunity then come yet... I'm think so but no idea in these markets currently! GL all

1ontheup - in exactly the same boat. Completely out after many years invested - Will come back - this is still a great company but I will remain out for now.

Reading some negative statements from Shale producers - general sentiment down and oil below $60...HTG has done well to hold this range but I will be looking to buy back in under 220p

Agree Carrington. I'm staying out now until after summer unless the sell off really is overdone and I get an opp of a bargain entry...but even then I will probably only come back in with half and watch in this market. Sentiment will continue to drag this down over coming months, at best it just stays range bound at these levels, but it could easily go and test 320p range if the market does not like the update/outlook.

This attack or attacks I should say are hugely significant . I've been saying this non stop since announced. Huge amount of disruption and inevitably cost. I sadi sell when SP was above £4 I was amazed I had the opportunity to sell above £4.

I think this will be closer to £3 than £4 by the end of the month. Not looking for arguments, like I said I have been long since £1...and added on dips... But I work in this field and i can only imagine how disruptive this will be.

Duke - they have not been trading online for over a week. Resuming trade online will be a relief but not a catalyst for a jump in SP on it's own.

The SP will only recover once further information is released on the overall impact of the attack i known and any longer term impacts on costs and profits

Yeah i bet it's the usual case of having all the security tooling to tick all the audit boxes but not used or monitored correctly so these indicators have been missed.

I can't believe how long it's going on for...it's must be a real mess. I read that stock impacts onto Ocado now too.

I have been transparent from the start, when I sold and stating that I want to get back in but needs to go lower and to have more info on the cyber incident before making that decision, You could argue that being out and not having the pressure of watching the profit ebb away allows you to look at the situation more clearly...but either way whether you are in or not there will be bias..I dont see the issue as long as folks are transparent about it and can then decide for themselves.

JD - I have agreed with a lot of what you have said but not on Stuart and Archie dropping the ball. At the moment they should get the benefit of the doubt as we just dont know enough. I can guarantee any failings of the IT department are likely to be seen in the majority of other companies...but lets wait for further news before blame.

Hi Neil - I hope the shorters comment is not aimed my way - I have been long MKS for over 4 yrs and am very thankful for the profits banked last week....and a long time loyal customer. It is possible to have a negative short term view without bad intentions.

The comment about february is misleading. MKS would not have known in Feb, this is probably as a result of the forensics that they have been able to find evidence of when the hackers actually gained access. The worry for me is that they have then been sitting in that environment for that long undetected, scanning and planning how they are going to attack. I dread to think the damage they have caused. The downtime says it all.

I do think we will post great results and I think we would have had a good start to the year but this incident and the general economy mood music will weigh heavy on the outlook.

Q1 Trading update positive.

The attack hasn't got anything to do with their websites. They were able to gain access to their internal systems undetected and then went and encrypted/ransomwared key internal systems

Who knew a cyber attack and the online website being down for a week is good for the share price!

I have to give it to the posters here who have had the balls to stay invested through this.

I still cannot believe it but have decided against buying back.

If this goes near £4 I may do the unthinkable and short it! But the concern for shorting is that there must be something underpinning the SP, a persistent buyer accumulating...lets see if we get a TR1

JD - Was thinking similar - is the SP being artificially supported to prevent a melt down of the SP at least until this is under control and M&S are able to update the market?

I should have added to my previous article - Given some of the details in that article about the attack, I am in no doubt they would have had access to customer data at some point.
