The last lot of trials were a shambles and RM were told by the union not pursue the trials as they would fail and sure enough they did. Newpostie when has the Union ever rolled over? How does VR support a growth agenda? why do people on this forum keep on banging on about cuts all the time in an industry which is the biggest in the country. Honestly I despair you will never grow by cutting staff and going against agreements VR or no VR and actually you would be very surprised at the lack of uptake on VR. We have good terms and conditions of employment and most employees know that. Derek in principle I agree with most of what you write you are correct volume is absolutely key and that is what people on this forum are missing and dropping the Divi to allow for more expansion is the sensible thing to do you cannot continually drain this industry of funding to fund people who have no affinity to the industry and know little about it.

Yeah I get what your saying I am not arguing with you. but the key is self funding if it is self funding technology improvements are not necessary. any cuts at all in the USO would affect the levels of employment and that doesn't support a growth agenda and doesn't support the agreement that RM have signed up to. Why do people always talk this industry down. If we take another hour off the working week with no effect on quality I dont see the issue. And I will go back to what I said previously, get the work attack the competition and RM will have natural productivity improvements. Also when the competition offer a 7 day service it would be financial and business suicide to drop down to a five day service the only people that would benefit would be the competition RM would lose contracts hand over fist. Growth is key not retraction

Cannot be done without Government approval and legislation and this would lead to IA without a shadow of a doubt because it would lead to massive job losses. The best way of knowing what is going to happen in the future is to wait until it is announced. Also keep in mind that Back has stated quite openly that he will work to the agreement with the CWU. A reduction in the USO is not part of that agreement

@beatroot Can't argue with what you are saying because I don't know your office. However this is not the norm throughout the business. Self funding is the absolute key to this drop in hours and it is sustainable if the walks are equalised correctly. You are correct there will be trouble if they renege on the agreement no doubt about that at all and it is part of our pay rise because it increases our hourly rate of pay and that of part timers. So far in the last year RM have lost about 120,000 hours a week every week due to the first hour coming off. It hasn't really caused any issues in any of the functions and I doubt it will going forward. As for delaying any further reduction, on their heads be it, we are not a Union to be messed with and the last thing this industry needs right now is anymore IA. If RM want to make savings then get us the work and take on the opposition and there will be natural savings and efficiency improvements. The employees are not the enemy other operators are so lets go after them

Derek you are correct Hermes carry Next not RM we do have some next when the volumes are too great for Hermes but not much at all outside of peak times

@ Red I wasn't claiming you were picking a fight. Whoever your authority is does not know much about the industry because there are sorting standards. But I do find it astonishing on here that all people talking about is making cuts shutting offices getting rid of staff. Why? The CWU have agreed with Royal Mail a growth agenda if you have a growth agenda you dont scale back parts of the service you use it to attack competitors and the way you do that is to get the work off of them. Someone on here has mentioned the vast growth in packet traffic. We have delivery offices which are bursting at the seams and the answer is to close other offices and out them into workplaces which will then be at breaking point because of the volume of mail. You couldn't make it up. There are so few on here that has an idea how to make this company grow you just talk about making cuts which is utter nonsense.

@Red forget the fact that if they did attempt to outsource Distribution they would be going against the agreement they struck with us. Also it would without a shadow of a doubt lead to a National dispute that would see this share price reduced to pennies. Secondly what happens of the distribution company that you have outsourced the mail to goes on strike? What do you do then postal workers will still need to be paid even though the mail will be going nowhere. Thirdly we have sorting standards at Mail Centres which just goes to show how little you know about the industry. Reducing sick pay would also go against the agreement that Royal Mail have signed up to and it aint gonna happen so forget that. Lastly the Regulator is the one you need to pick a fight with not the workforce
