UK Hydrogen Refuelling Station Network:

Hydrogen Refuelling Stations are being planned and being developed across the UK, with the goal of a nationwide network by 2027. While there are currently a limited number of stations, particularly for public use, infrastructure is expanding. The government and private companies are investing in building these stations, aiming to support the growth of hydrogen-powered vehicles and heavy transport.

* Element 2 plans to build a UK-wide network of hydrogen refuelling stations, aiming to have them across the country by 2027. 


* Aegis Energy is planning to build 30 new hydrogen refuelling stations, with the first opening in early 2026.

It's official: hydrogen is at the top! New ICCT study confirms: FCEVs with renewable hydrogen are the most climate-friendly propulsion system today, even ahead of battery-electric vehicles.

 

The renowned The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), one of the world's most influential clean mobility think tanks, writes: Fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs), powered by renewable hydrogen, cause the lowest CO₂ emissions over the entire life cycle. Lower than BEVs. Lower than hybrids. Lower than diesel or gasoline, even with biofuels.

 

These facts prove that hydrogen is here to stay! And is now officially at the forefront of the lowest-emission drives! For us as the German Hydrogen Association, this is a clear confirmation of our conviction and our daily work for a technology-open, climate-neutral transport sector.

 

The ICCT also sends a clear signal to politicians:

✅ Only FCEVs and BEVs with renewable propulsion have the potential for complete defossilization in the long term.

✅ The focus should be on lifecycle emissions – not just the tailpipe.

ITM up 4% State Side 🤭

Hydrogen-powered cars are once again eligible for UK government support, thanks to a newly revised Electric Car Grant scheme – provided they come in under £37,000 and meet strict emissions, range, and warranty requirements.

Updated guidance published on 16 July 2025 confirms that fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) will be accepted under the new grant rules, so long as they meet the same technical and environmental standards as battery-electric cars.
