Benefits to Northern Ireland of offshore wind have been independently analysed by a Renewable NI report ( commissioned from BVG), and show that 1.5GW of offshore wind connected in Northern Ireland by 2032 would result in 49 million tonnes of carbon dioxide offset - the equivalent of 1.2million less cars on the road or 145,000 less flights from London to New York.

While from a supply chain perspective,  more than £1.9 billion spent with local suppliers over the life of the projects would equates to £2.4 billion of economic value to the region and add more than 32,000 full time jobs.

Lots going on in #Belfast as the Maritime UK Council and Directors visited Harland & Wolff this week ahead of the #MaritimeUK Awards. Thanks to John Wood, Ben Murray and the team for the hospitality and the tour and the it was great to visit Artemist’s facility and get a trip on their efoiler around Belfast Harbour!

I'm not taking it as a given that the decision will go H&W's way nor if it does am I expecting immediate announcements from the company on a transaction. Perfectly comfortable that time is taken to have the necessary conversations to arrive at the next sensible steps to move forward.

My first 2 months at Harland and Wolff have flown by at astonishing speed.

The 2 trips to Belfast, standing under those iconic cranes, next to the ENORMOUS Searose FPSO in my PPE were definite highlights. However, meeting people who have joined our ranks from all walks of life on our upskilling and apprentice programmes, as well as those ensuring their legacy by passing on their skills and knowledge has been just as moving.

There are challenges for sure, but the energy, drive and optimism is infectious and I am loving being a part of it. 🫶🛳️🚢

Interesting read. Presumably it could be argued a separate storage facility at Islandmagee for gas / hydrogen would provide enhanced resilience to the UK and Republic of Ireland than expanding an existing source.

New market entrant XLCC said it has completed the concept design for a new cable laying vessel for planned delivery in the first half of 2025. The tender process is now underway, with the aim to select a shipyard by end Q2 2022.

Onlymee, I think the order has been placed already. I think at a point I saw that but if I see it again I will repost.
