Germany has signed off €4.6bn of funding for 23 green hydrogen projects under the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) scheme.

The projects cover up to 1.4GW of hydrogen production capacity, 370WGh of hydrogen storage, 2,000km of pipelines and the use of liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC) for the transport of 1,800 tonnes of hydrogen per year.

70% of the funding will be provided by the federal government, while the states of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Micklenburg-Western Pomerania will contribute 30% for the projects in their states.

bp and Aberdeen City Council have taken final investment decision (FID) to build a green hydrogen hub which is planned to start production in 2026.

The oil and gas major established a joint venture with the local council – bp Aberdeen Hydrogen Energy – to build the 300-tonne per year hydrogen hub to fuel vehicles operating in the city.

We are delighted to announce that Harland & Wolff, in partnership with WOMEN'STEC, has become the first maritime industry #NotJustForBoys Champion. Our mission is to inspire and support local women and girls to pursue careers in the maritime industry in Belfast and beyond.

Partnership launch and school visit 🤝

On 15th April, we launched our partnership by welcoming the WOMEN'STEC leadership team and participants for a career planning session and a tour of our yard and training facilities, including insights into our apprenticeship programmes. Less than two weeks later, on 30th April, we invited a brilliant group of Year 11 students from Belfast Model School for Girls to visit our site. They enjoyed a comprehensive tour and engaged with our team to learn about the diverse opportunities in the maritime sector. 👩🔧👷♀️

We were thrilled to attend the WOMEN'STEC breakfast industry event, where we were recognised officially as a #NotJustForBoys champion. This event offered a fantastic opportunity to network and discuss the future of women in maritime.

In a potentially lethal blow to what would have been Britain’s first new coal mine in 30 years, Labour has withdrawn support for the project amid concerns over its environmental impact.

The Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Eamon Ryan held his first call with the UK’s new Energy Secretary Ed Miliband yesterday.

The call outlined Ireland’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relationships with the UK within the energy sector.

Both Ryan and Miliband agreed that energy commitments from both countries will deliver greater energy security, national security and economic security, while also tackling climate change.

Miliband also outlined the UK Government’s new climate agenda. Ahead of yesterday’s call, energy officials from the UK visited Dublin to meet with DECC and DETE officials as part of a working group meeting on energy transition, this meeting follows a UK-Ireland Memorandum of Understanding on renewable energy which was signed by UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and DECC last year.
