The only figure that counts when it comes to house supply and demand is the increasing population figures.

the figure that counts, is the number of people in the country,not in and out figures. Ever increasing population means more land to be built on (never ending cycle). A stable population level is required to end this cycle.

It is the market that determines the affordability of housing.
Schemes only mask the fact that for many property is not affordable if purchasers were having to purchase 100% of a property with a mortgage on the whole property.

continues to invest in Shell shares at these low price levels - high oil prices could be here for quite a while - I sold some at about 2766p on 15th May 2018 when Brent oil was at about 70 dollars.

Yes, many young people now as with the young of the past, have made it harder for themselves in the long run. Not all give a thought to when they are in their sixties at a time they are 18.
Not even my own children - they have just been very fortunate that I have been able to help out, when I would have liked to have seen them helping themselves a bit more when they first entered the workplace. Too much clubbing, not enough saving.
My niece on the other hand did save immediately and was able to make a property purchase at the age of 21.
